Recommended Tracking Tires/Rims

I have purchased a 2011 BMW 135i DCT and would like to track it and was wondering what the hot setup is for tires (they will be for the track only)?

Thanks

I have used both Yoko ADO8 and Star Specs and liked them both. APEX rims are made for our car and can get the most rubber to fit. I just picked up my second set of APEX rims and have Hoosiers on them.

Ya how are the Hoosiers and what size did you go with? Did you have to use spacers in the front?

I would go with Apex wheels and Nitto NT01s, but I haven't really tried hoosiers or any full R compound. I did my set of learning on RE-11s, now on NT01s, maybe if I can out drive those, then I'll switch to Hoosiers.. but depends on skills and experience I guess.

I just put on the Hoosiers and my 1st time with the Hoosiers at the track will be on Saturday at Infineon. Depending on the suspension you have helps determine what size tire you can fit with the rim. I have ground control coilovers on the front and camber plates. With the APEX ARC 8 18x8.5 on all four conners and a 5mm spacer in the front I can run Yoko ADO8 255/35/18 on a square setup. I have been running ADO8s for the last two track seasons.

With the Hoosiers I went 245/35/18 and ARC 8 18x8.5 and a 5 mm spacer in the front and in the back 255/35/18 on ARC 8 18x9.5. I took them out on some back roads and no rubbing but first track day will be this saterday. The Hoosiers run big and the 255 uses the same mold as the 275. The guys at APEX helped me with my setup.

I guess the first question should be; how much track experience do you have? if you are running in the advance group then your choices depend on whether do you want to haul a separate set of track wheel/tire to the track. if so, then hoosiers R6, BFG R1, toyo R888, Toyo RA1 are my recommendation. if you don't want to haul track wheels/tires then your choices are, dunlop Z1, hankook RS3, bridgestone RE11 and yoko AD08

Also Hankook Z214 C51 is another semi-slick, costs a lot less than Hoosiers, comes in some sizes that BFG R1 is missing.

Anyway, you'll need camber plates for any of the r-comps except maybe R888.

Those are great sizes if you have ARC-8 wheels and camber plates. Reviews I've seen say those tires have better dry grip than Dunlop Star Specs but poor wet grip.
