You beat me to it! I don't think the black looks good on the AW 1M so I was trying to find a way to go satin finish or matte. It looks pretty good. Try it out for a few days, you can always clean and paint black later.

Will watch with interest as I am still chrome side and front grilles. I am thinking of getting local body shop to take them off for a gloss black spray.

Just sand blasted it looks satin and its very appealing. I didnt expect it to be so nice but everything on my car is either VO or black (except the wheels, which will be swapped out with gunmetal or black ones soon). Over all it looks a little out of place but the piece on its own looks really good.

I like gloss black as it goes with the gloss black trim around windows.

Gloss black! Look at your mirrors...that same gloss black/orange contrast becomes very appealing in the front when you do the grills.

Exactly! besides when matte black ages with oxidation, it really looks old and dirty.

I dabbled with gloss black kidney grilles and side markers from IND.
Their paint quality was VERY POOR on the side markers.
Had the chromeys put back on.
Also, I felt the black kidney grilles gave the 1M too much of a "pig nose" look.
It works for 335i and M3, but not for the 1M IMO.

Not to get all techy, but without a finish I doubt the base plastic is UV stabilized and will likely not last against sunshine, weather, etc and will become brittle, yellow in color and turn to crap. You probably want to finish it with something to protect the plastic, even if its a clear coat of some kind.

I decided to go black. I figured the satin as nice as it looked it would only match the wheels and those will be changed soon (I hope).
