Silver CF Amber-gone's
This is just a small update. The only thing I did was replace the smoked amber-gone's with the silver cf ones. IMHO these look way cleaner.

Definitely better than the tinted cover. I may consider these if I can paint it to match TiAg.

Now your car is not compliant with Federal or State laws requiring front and rear side reflectors. Does anyone know if that is enforced in CA?
Keep this in mind when you park your car at night, as it is not as visible, some drunk could run into you. It would be good if those covers are at least reflective. You can also get refelctive white tape that could be put on the lower edge of your bumper. |

^^WHAT?? What is he riding a bike? Reflectors? U.S laws require an amber color for light signaling. The light produced from his bulb will still show amber even though he has the amber gone on. And if a "drunk" is driving at night, I don't think that the covers or anything being "reflective" is going to save your car.
To the OP: Can you post pics not directly in sunlight or during dusk, so I may see how they look in all light settings? I may order these now.

^ I'll try to get better pics when I get the chance. At first, the silver cf looked a bit odd but once you have everything properly set, they do transform the headlights. I also believe many of e90 guys use the same pattern for their headlights.

no offense, but if you guys are that obsessed with the amber, buy an e46 and change the corners for $100. all these cheap cover mods look exactly that: cheap. i would not pay over 30 grand for a car and cover it with something like that. IMO the amber looks better. the only way to do it right on a 1 series, unfortunately, is to buy the euro headlights for hundreds of dollars and just replace them completely.
sorry just my opinion. PS i can still see the amber in the headlight. |

i agree with everything that has been said in this thread. on the one hand the cheap covers look cheap, but on the other i like how it looks better than the orange stuff. and its OK if there's a little orange coming through. But they have to be body color matched in TiAg like robert said.
can i see some pics where you're standing a little bit back from the car, and from various angles.

Well the idea, imo, is to not have them body matched. As by doing so, they act like "eyelids" and change the shape of the headlights. The intended effect is to provide the "cleared headlights" look while maintaining the overall shape. I mean ideally, doing a complete swap is the best option, but for the price, I think these look pretty decent.
As I mentioned before, there are plenty of people in the e90 community that opt for silver cf, etched glass ambergones. I'm not saying just because they do it that it looks good, but looking at varous pics, it does change the look of the headlights for the better. |

^ Remember Euno tried the white covers already and they were. Let's wait for the OP to post different angle and different lighting before making a final verdict. I think that these might work and give a slight "illusion" of the euro-look (maybe).

It's either a cover or replace the entire housing. The amber doesn't bug me enough to spend few hundred.

The concept might work, but solution looks too much like a decal. It has to be integrated with the lights or it just looks cheap and pasted on.
On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if it caused you a host of problems if you got into an accident. At the very least I could see a cop writing you a ticket for obscuring your indicator lights. I wonder if your friendly insurance company could do something even worse (anything to get out of paying a claim).

On a dark night in November, at 2 in the morning on a moonless night, try driving down an unlit lane - you would be surprised how much reflectors make vehicles more visible.

I understand some of you guys aren't feeling it. I still think they look pretty decent in real life and way better than the oem ambers.
I just didn't like the look of the smoked amber-gones after a while. I'll try to get some more pics this weekend. |

That looks pretty cool! I think on the AW, it looks very nice with the silver CF. Do you mind if we use your pictures as a reference on our website? It's definitely an eye catcher :w00t:
