Hpfp
I am on my 3rd 135 vert, 08,11 and this one is a 13 IS. Started it this morning and herd that familiar wine from the rear and the yellow car on lift symbol came up. Had to have the Hpfp changed twice on the 08 and once on the 11. I thought BMW fixed this problem? Anybody have this with a 13 model? Car is still under warranty and bringing it in for service. By the way I love this car and get a charge every time I start it in the morning, neighbors must hate me when I fire it up in the morning and those sweet sounds come burbling out her ass.

How do you know your problem is the HPFP? Did it crank long when it started? Time to read some codes.
And that whine from the back is the LPFP...

Started right up but sounded the same as the 2011 one I had when that failed. Car is still under warranty and going in Thurs. my question was that I thought BMW changed to a different fuel pump after model year 11 and was curious if others with 2012 & 13 have had this problem.

If it's coming from the rear of the car, it's the low-pressure fuel pump. The high-pressure pump is in the engine compartment. That way, you're not pushing 25,000 PSI through fuel lines from the rear to the front. If it were the high-pressure pump, you'd have long cranks to get it to start and then "limp mode" because of the inadequate priming of the high-pressure pump and insufficient supply into the injectors. The HPFP problem supposedly got fixed on the N55-engine models.

Just a FYI
So I got my car back from service after I thought it was the HPFP because it sounded like the same noise that happened with my 08 and 11 cars and had the yellow car on lift symbol. This was the report: Ran short test and found faults stored in the DSC control unit for a one time fault. Fault code 005DEC DSC preformance reduction. Followed test plan and checked fault. As per test plan cleared fault. Only happened once. Cleared faults after checking DSC system. |

Looks like you lucked out...so it's all good now? Clearing the fault code fixed it? Good to know if so - I have the tools to read/clear faults if this ever happens to the wife's car.

So far so good. By the way did I mentioned how much I love this car. While I was at the dealers I drove a M235 stick.Miss the mt but I am 67 with a bad knee but still wouldn't trade it for my IS. Didn't like the steering feel

Same age as you, parnet, but fortunately still have both knees good. Keeping the wife's 128i M-Sport 6MT convertible for the forseeable future. They just don't make 'em like this any more.
