Tracking 135i

Hey there! Firstly, I'll introduce myself... My name is Ralf Schneider, and I've recently purchased a 2008 BMW 135i, which is now a race prepped street car.. I have a question on suspension... Got the KW Clubsport suspension installed, but just wondering what you guys use for camber rates for the track? Thanks!

welcome aboard Ralf. 2.5 - 3.0 deg of camber is standard for us. I am running 2.9 front and 2.0 in the back. what else have you done for mods?

Ok, great thanks!! Heading to the track this weekend, so this helps! Yea, other mods are just an AFE Cold Air Intake, Roll bar, Recaro fixed race seats, and other visual work.. Possibly a Dinan chip, but have to still get use to the power it as right now!

I think you are missing 2 big pieces for it to be decent on the track. First, you need to do something about those rear sub frame bushings. On the track they will lead to some stability problems when you push the car's weight around

2nd, you need to get a proper LSD in that thing

Well it'll be the first time out on the track with this car, so it's more like a test run.. I know this may sound dumb, but LSD? lol

If it's a dedicated track car get at least 3 degrees up front...i keep mine at 2.5 b/c it's dual duty...but wish i had 3 for the track.

Not full track, yet... So 2.5 would be good for both track and street? Without destroying the tires too much? Haha.

Yeah so far tire wear seems to be pretty good though depending on the track my outside edges on the front still seem to get a bit worn, but no where near as bad as stock.

If you use your street tires on track, the track will destroy them long before any street wear even shows, so you might as well do -3.0.

If you have separate track wheels and don't use your street tires on track, -3.0 will wear them much faster than normal. So how much money are we talking about? I'll guess $350 extra per year.

Or you can adjust the camber plates when you change the wheels. You can set up the camber plates so the toe and camber adjust together between street and track settings. The guys I've talked to who adjust camber at the track say it takes them five minutes a side. But most people don't think it's worth even that much time.

adding: Hoosier says you'll get best track performance around -3, but best compromise of performance and longevity closer to -2.5. So maybe I shouldn't say you might as well do -3 because the difference in track tire cost could be way more than $350 if you do a lot of events.

Welcome Ralf!
Add the front M3 suspension bits to your list, as well as the HP Autowerks rear toe arms and rear sway bar. Camber is key. Like the others say -3 up front is good. Get a set of Apex Arc 8s. Light, wide and cheap, yet still a great dual purpose wheel. Next will be cooling the brakes and the oil down. That's a hole separate thread haha.

haha, thanks a lot guys!! this really helps! I'll try 2.5 front camber, and see how it goes.. I'm at the track all weekend, so I can try 2.5 one day, and 3.0 the next.. I'm sure its a greatly noticeable difference, but never hurts to try! thanks again!
