A dealer can not refuse to do a recall bc your car has mods. They can take note of it though for future warranty claims.

I would wait a few weeks and check back. BMW will not tell everyone all at once to come in! Cars up to 2012 are all effected from what I have read.

Thanks for the info Dack, I figured as much, but I'd rather not have my car red flagged for future warranty issues. I'm just curious as to how much snooping they'd do outside of the battery cable itself (assuming that was the only thing the car was in for), which wouldn't involve being around the downpipes, to my knowledge. I guess we'll see!

Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that this battery cable recall will start in March, 2013. So far it is only for USA and Canadian models. They also said that for most cars a bad cable will make the instrument panel light up like crazy. And in some extreme case the engine might cut off entirely.

I can confirm that it is also in Saudi, as I saw an email from the Service manger to a service adviser stating as such, so it is not only USA and Canada for sure. It seems BMW wants to limit the news to those areas only.

Australia is also on the recall list so it looks like it will be global.

so to drag this back to basics, this likely affects a specific factory's builds.

I think my car is exempted because it was started at the very end of 2011.

CHECK your build date... looks like you are ok.

Success at last, BMW is going to reimburse me for the repairs. At last I feel that I have got what I deserve.

Hmm seems to be a common BMW problem. My E60 had a similar recall done IIRC about a year ago.

Good News is that this one doen't require me to keep the car out of the garage.

I don't think they would do any snooping. They have an obligation to replace the part because of safety issues they couldn't deny you that privilege due to aftermarket components

I'm pretty sure I'm in the clear. I tracked and called incessantly...even going so far as to make an animated gif of the ship going through the Panama Canal screenshotting from their streams haha

December start, feb 2012 delivery, ideally should be in the clear

Is the part number being replaced this one:

61 12 6 988 974

Battery cable (plus pole)

This item has the explosive component in case the car gets into an accident, to disconnect the electrical system from the vehicle's electric system.

(model in reference is an 08 135i Cabrio with Sport package)

Not all E82 were effected ? Sent an email to my SA and he mentioned that he will verify and get back to me for the repair.

Most car battery's "life span" is four or five years. Anything after that is on borrowed time. Its just gonna take one deep cycle discharge or cold snap to kill your old battery.
