I would wait a few weeks and check back. BMW will not tell everyone all at once to come in! Cars up to 2012 are all effected from what I have read.

Thanks for the info Dack, I figured as much, but I'd rather not have my car red flagged for future warranty issues. I'm just curious as to how much snooping they'd do outside of the battery cable itself (assuming that was the only thing the car was in for), which wouldn't involve being around the downpipes, to my knowledge. I guess we'll see!

Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that this battery cable recall will start in March, 2013. So far it is only for USA and Canadian models. They also said that for most cars a bad cable will make the instrument panel light up like crazy. And in some extreme case the engine might cut off entirely.

I think my car is exempted because it was started at the very end of 2011.

Success at last, BMW is going to reimburse me for the repairs. At last I feel that I have got what I deserve.

Hmm seems to be a common BMW problem. My E60 had a similar recall done IIRC about a year ago.
Good News is that this one doen't require me to keep the car out of the garage.

Not all E82 were effected ? Sent an email to my SA and he mentioned that he will verify and get back to me for the repair.

Most car battery's "life span" is four or five years. Anything after that is on borrowed time. Its just gonna take one deep cycle discharge or cold snap to kill your old battery.
