Custom Muffler Delete on Stock N55
I know there are plenty of threads about muffler deletes (already read most of them) but couldn't really find my answer.
I've got a stock 2011 135i M Package and want to make the sound more aggressive but not too loud. I don't want to be setting off car alarms in the morning or be heard from miles away. A muffler delete seems to be what I want but I just don't know really how loud it is. Some threads have people saying its extremely loud while others say its nice. Its too hard to go off of youtube videos.. My only real comparison is on my stock setup I love the sound I get on a cold start but that only lasts like 30 seconds lol. So I want it to be around the loudness of a stock cold start and it could be a little louder as well. Would a muffler delete be ideal for this? BTW I need a cheap option thats why I'm interested in this.. Thanks!! |

I planned on just going to a shop and having them simply cut out the muffler and put in a straight pipe and attach it back onto my tips. Is that what you're referring too? |

I don't have any whistle sound on mine. It was fairly quiet before and I live in a condo so if I am backed into my parking spot on cold start i set off the my neighbor's car alarm upon cold start. When cruising on the highway its fairly quiet until you're above 90 mph or WOT. Around town it's a bit loud especially from the outside so be aware of cops. If you don't mind it being loud then i would advise to do the muffler delete. I was able to source a muffler flange and I unbolted the oem exhaust and had a shop weld the flange onto my muffler delete piping just in case i ever want to go back to stock my oem piping isn't messed up.

OP: If you like the "cold engine" start sound, have you considered the popular and reversible "Golf-T" mod?

It is going to be ridiculously loud. I had a couple fo friends that went muffler delete and even with stock downpipe they had to ditch it because it was way too loud. Now if you don't want to wake up people in the middle of the night and set off alarms, then I suggest you to look at a performance muffler like Berk, UUC or Maddad than a straight up muffler delete.

Look at Berk's muffler delete race exhaust design...notice how there's a small portion that connects both pipes...that is there to cancel out or minimize the whistle noise....They had a version1 that didn't have that connecting pipe and those exhausts whistled...it's well documented... with that said..i don't mind it that much right now...I'll get a berk exhaust later down the line for sure, but atleast now i know i want the muffler version and not the muffler delete because it's too loud lol : |
