Crankcase Oil Vapors

Does anyone have any opinion or knowledge about the poetential carbon buildup on the valves in the N54? I have been reading with much interest about installations of Oil Catch Cans for other BMW's equipped with the N54. This device is supposed to prevent the carbon buildup on the valves. Direct injection engines seem to have this problem.

Has the N54 in the 1M been modified in any way to help prevent this?

An oil catch can may help with oil blow back gunking up an intercooler, but it will not stop carbon build up. The N54, like other direct injection engines, doesn't have fuel running over its valves to keep them clean. Unless you are going the heavily modified route (supplemental fueling for high boost applications) you will eventually want someone to do a valve job...
