HELP ME GUYS 19" or 20"???
Hi all I would like to buy some new black BBS CH-R wheels for my 1M BSM and I'm still confused between 19" and 20"...my hearth says 20"..my brain and my money bag says 19"...
The problem is that I drive mostly in south of Switzerland and north of Italy and street here are really bad and with many holes...so I think maybe 19" is more confortable....boh...Tell me your opinion.... |

+1, yeah no doubt. OP, you kinda answered you question with the description of the roads you are going to be riding on. If I were in your shoes, I might even be looking at an 18" option.

19s! Car is already bouncy. You'll regret 20s. Also heavier, worse handling, more expensive tires, less selection, etc. I would even consider 18s for performance but best for style and performance is 19.

Forum member Golo has 20" BBS CH-R (Satin Titanium [gunmetal]) on his AW. Don't know his experiences, but IMHO only for the brave (Spartan ride + fender liners and suspension will suffer a hard time on rugged roads, speed bumps and sidewalk borders + it will be a challenge and burn a hole in your wallet to find suitable tires fitting those rims on a 1M). Pictures of Golo's ride: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=44 I got the same rims in 19" size on my VO. Believe me, these fellas are big enough for the 1M. Mine is stock ride height but these still look OK (lowering is no option for me, not only for reasons of ride comfort, but also because of questionable road conditions). Below are two pictures of BSM with 19" BBS CH-R (Satin Black):

If you did find an 18" option, you may want to search for a thread containing information about a BMW service alert for a liner replacement. Apparently BMW will replace the liner at a customer request. I have not tried this, nor do I have much information on it, but apparently people are having issues with rubbing at full turn on the inside liner. BMW has released an alert and will replace it only at customer request (it is not a recall in any way). Not sure how true this is, but do a search.

It was quite a bold decision of BMW to equip the 1M with 19" rims (silver version of the 19" M3 GTS wheels) as stock setup. Going for 20" is IMHO challenging the limits of the acceptable and asking for rubbing trouble. As a matter of fact, BMW could have decided to fit OEM 18" E92 M3 wheels: See for example the ride of M3Power79: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...07&postcount=1 http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=22 (clip)

I'm running 18's, and I'm pretty sure it's the best bet, not for looks perhaps, but the ride is much better. Plus wheels (AND TYRES) are less expensive. And breakaway is more progressive. APEX does a new model, the EC-7, whith lots of dimensions, including 9x18 (fronts) and 10x18 (rears), but for me E92 M3 wheels are doing the trick ...
