Best tuner for a stock set-up?

I'm looking to wake up my 1M. I plan on leaving it stock and not driving it much on the track but would like to get a bit more kick out of it. Just a simple add on that can be "undone" quickly and quietly.

Also, if you have the same info on a 2013 Audi S4, I'd love input there too!

Thanks!

If you want simple install and uninstall def go with Cobb. Plus you can read codes and log your car.

Cobb is definitely the easiest to install/uninstall. I've not heard good things about the stock maps for 1m though. If I were to do Cobb I'd buy the unit then immediately get an e-tune from PTF or Brenn Tuning to setup a proper map for the 1M. All in you're looking at about $1000.

What's nice about the e-tune from PTF anyway is they will retune for free if you add components down the line (ie downpipes, intercooler etc). I'm not sure about Brenn on this facet.

This is all based on 'easiest to install' though. There are multiple other great options out there if you don't mind about 1 hr the first time you install and 20-30 min after that for a piggyback. These units run around $500 and make great power right out of the box. They also offer free downloadable maps for when you add new components to the car.

Lots and lots of good options out there.

GIAC is very reliable tune and you should be able to get an entire package (tune, handheld switcher, and additional maps) for $1,000. The only issue is the initial flash must be done at a GIAC dealer.

Honestly, I quite like the ESS for stock setup. A PITA to install but you only do it once.

I'm happy with my ESS Stage 1 Gen 2 tune. The only thing I changed was N55 midpipe, but otherwise bone stock setup. The initial install takes some time, but after that it's relatively quick. You can also revert to stock relatively quickly at home. No dealer trips required. Kit includes the cable, USB stick, instructions. You download your data, send it to them, and then they send you your VIN locked tune.

Also - Asbjorn is great to deal with. Very knowledgeable and friendly. I got mine on sale for around $895 IIRC.

How much do you gain with this tune on a stock 1M?
