Anyone going to store their 1 for the winter?

Thinking about picking up a beater for the winter months.

I'm storing mine. It would take a beating in the winter. I have a 97 Maxima with 160,000 miles and it is a workhorse, best car I have ever owned. I use a Battery Tender + and place Stabil in the tank.

Hybrid storing my 1er

I'll drive my Saab 9-2X AWD during the winter.
I'll leave my 1er cabrio parked in the garage with 3/4" plywood sheets under each tire (to mitigate flatspotting) & with the trickle charger hooked up.
Approx every 2 weeks (at a minimum), when the weather allows and the roads are free and clear of ice, snow or slush, I'll take her for a 30 minute spin.
I did that for 5 winters with my Z4 and it worked very well.

I picked up an old ZJ for $2300 for winter use. My 135i will stay in the garage once salt hits the roads; I'll start it up and move it in and out of the garage every so often.

ewww salt on the roads. That must ruin your cars. Thankfully we don't have to have that here.

I once saw a Jaguar that someone had imported to New Zealand from the UK and it was completely rotten because of the salt (and possibly because it was a 1980s Jaguar...).

Manufacturers pay a lot of attention to the body and paint now a days. This is why they give a respectably long warranty for paint/body alone.

My GTI had 12 years on the body, if there were any rust holes etc, they would deal with it.

Storing as well. Can get little to no info from the dealer as how to store (unsure or unwilling?). Anything special about the bmw battery charger?

I will drive it with discretion when the roads are dry. The family's 4wd will be mine when the snow and salt are flying. The elise and bike are stored.

I will store it and take out my trusty little 1995 E36 for the winter. BTW, I still have snow tires mounted on my E36 from last season.....

I will take out the vert once in a while if the roads are cleared. I am not as worry about salt/rust because I drove my E36 all four seasons for 13 years and I still haven't seen any rust. Amazingly built BMW !!!!!

Unfortunately the BMW trickle charger I used on my Z4 (which you plug into the cigarette lighter) won't work with the 1er.
The existing charger needs to be modified to have battery clips or buy a new BMW charger with the clips which attach to different spots under the hood.

She drives the 135 coupe, got Dunlop Sport 3D for them.

Vert is stored. Final cleanup this week while weather is good. E39 540 will be the winter beater, Dunlop Sport M3.
