Here's how I feel about my car:

20 years from now , in 2036.

I'm 75 years old and some random stranger will approach me at some venue and say "Holy, SH*T! A period correctly modified BMW 128i in immaculate condition!

And I'll be all like "Original owner, custom ordered from the factory."

And they'll be all like "Cool."

I'm 75 years old and some random stranger will approach me at some venue and say how many miles did you say you have racked up on that car?

And I will say I bought it when it was eight years old with 32,000 miles, the prior owner won it in a raffle so it has three pedals and only two options (paint and bun toasters). I couldn't let it sit around with so few miles so I drove the piss out of it on the road & track.

Hope to still have this 20 years from now. We'll see. I plan on driving it into the ground and then rebuilding it and doing it again.

20 years? In the event we haven't destroyed ourselves or otherwise have a horrendously devastating conflict (50/50 in my book) I imagine we'll be getting pretty close to the point where humans aren't actually allowed to drive cars on the road so yeah a nice original human drivable 1 series would be pretty cool.

Keeping with the theme:

20 years from now , in 2036.

I'm 75 years old and some random stranger will approach me at some venue and say "Holy, SH*T! Is that powered by GAS?!?!"

And I'll be all like "Yup, and still under my lifetime warranty. I'm the guy that made Wells Fargo sell Warranty Solutions."

And they'll be all like "What the fuck is wrong with you."

In 20 years, I will be looking at photos of a certain blue 135i Coupe that we once had and that it was fun while it lasted.

Lol, never is a long time. Look me up in twenty or thirty and maybe even your jaded self will be appreciative. No one thought a 510 would be sh*t at the time...

20 years from now. Some stranger at some venue approaches and asks,"Is that really a 1 series?" And I'll respond, "WHAT?!"

Recently, I met this nice guy at a party. He noticed my BMW hat and asked if I owned a BMW car or motorcycle. Then he says, "My Dad used to own an old classic BMW." So I ask, "Was it a 2002?" And he says, "No it was back in the 70's."

I changed the subject.

Warranty Solutions looks like a huge hot potato:

1988 - GE Enters Vehicle Service Contract Business
2008 - GE Money Warranty Services becomes part of the Wachovia family
2009 - Warranty Solutions becomes part of the Wells Fargo family
2015 - Warranty Solutions acquired by AmTrust Financial Services

What happens next to this huge white elephant? Isn't it just one of the many methods that can be employed to separate timid trusting souls from their money?

Which is a large part of why I don't purchase extended warranties. I did it once only to get finger pointing, "it's not covered", it was due to your negligence etc. I just start to evaluate when a car starts costing more than a new car payment to keep in the road each month, it's probably time to replace it or reduce how much I drive it while still getting a replacement.

I would rather keep the money and roll the dice on whether I will need money for expensive repairs. I have owned over two dozen cars and haven't been bitten yet.

I doubt I'll have my 128i more than 20 months let alone 20 years. It's the least loved BMW I've ever owned :/

Lets see... a 2008 1 series would be 28 years old by then. Back in 1988... bmw was making the E30 - still many on the road and some are coveted for the handling and style of the time.

Yep, I plan to still own mine. Likely still driving it and perhaps an enthusiast would notice it and think its cool.

Personally I've never really seen the resemblence between the 135i & 2002. I think
