Someday a BMW 1M Performance Exhaust ?
Hopefully.
Below is a video of the M3 Performance Exhaust: "BMW M3 Performance Exhaust With the racetrack and the street in mind, this new exhaust system is crafted from an extremely heat-resistant and lightweight chrome-nickel alloy called Inconel®. This flow optimized exhaust system reduces exhaust backpressure and allows the M3’s 414 horsepower V8 engine to produce an even more powerful sound. Inconel’s unique qualities allowed engineers to reduce the thickness of the tubing from 1.5mm to 0.8mm. This resulted in a weight reduction of approximately 40%, or about 20 lbs. when compared to the stock exhaust system. Inconel has also proven to be very corrosion resistant and has been used at the highest level of Motorsports. The M Performance Exhaust includes perforated inner pipes and polished titanium tips, which are laser engraved with the M logo. It represents the ultimate in technology and sportiness, accentuating the individual character of the BMW M3. The exhaust was developed using state-of-the art CAD and FEM technology ensuring optimum fit and OEM quality."

I think it's too late for this sort of thing for the 1M. I was hoping this and perhaps front splitters like M3 and Alpha-N would have come out but I expect BMW M are done with it now.

+1. I feel lucky that I had the car itself from BMW. They won't do a thing for the 1M anymore but the range of aftermarket products is impressive.

I took these vidoes at the Leipzig AMI car show two months ago... I never posted the videos bc they are a bit vague on what car the Perf exhaust is for.
By far the best sounding exhaust I have ever heard was at the //M Studio in Garching... when I saw one of the test drivers fire up this Lemans Blue CRT prototype... WHAT a sound that thing had! For a sound like THAT... I could see spending 5K for it! standard BMW exhaust... I think 335i ? The display did not state which BMW model!!... performance exhaust... again the display did not say which model!! lol

Dackel, thanks for posting these videos. For sure, the M Performance was sounding more aggresive as it should but I found the "normal" exhaust pretty good too. It was deep and clean. If that was a 335i or not I have no idea but can't be something other than a N54 or N55 imo. My bet is a new N55 engined 335i or a 535i.

So probably BMW considers that the last produced 1M rolling out of the Leipzig plant a couple of days ago was the final curtain call for the 1M Project. Quote:
True that the 1M market is certainly a limited one, but BMW should reasonably know that - given the tremendous success of the 1M as regards enthusiasm and sales - it would be a sure-fire hit to commercialize a 1M Performance Exhaust (conceived and produced by a reputable exhaust manufacturer who is authorized to laser the ///M logo on the exhaust tips). According to the (hollow?) marketing baseline "M is the strongest letter in the world". However, regarding the 1M exhaust, "M" rather seems to stand for "Muffled"... 1M with OEM stock exhaust: 1M with Performance Exhaust:

I heard the BMW Performance exhaust while at ALMS last weekend on both the new F30 335i, as well as on the Fire Orange E92 M3 Lime Rock edition. Frankly, nothing to behold, IMO Aftermarket solutions win easily.

You'd be very surprised how little of any given car auto manufacturers actually make themselves. The frame and most of the core engine components, and that's it. Everything else is designed and/or specified in-house, but farmed out to hundreds of different vendors. Transmissions, brakes, wheels, tires, turbos, seats, upholstery, stereos, navs, air filters, lighting components, paint colors, differentials, airbags, fuel pumps, oil filters... you name it -- all manufactured by different companies for BMW.

Funny. Because that's the answer I was given by Larry Koch a few years back when I asked him if there would be a 1M at all.

So maybe M really does stand for Marketing, not Motorsports... You would think BMW would hire someone for that role from a racing/motorsports background, not marketing (former brand manager), but perhaps that's an indication where the branding is indeed headed.

+1 - I think the BMW PE exhaust is the best sounding N54/N55 exhaust available.

The problem is you are talking about three separate companies; BMW NA, BMW AG and //M GmbH. BMW AG tasks //M with a project... they build it. Then AG figures out all the logistics and produces the car. Then BMW NA sells what ever AG sends over here to the states. NA has some input for "orders", but their role is more of selling what ever the "product" (is) rather than having any real input for end product.
