weight difference between stripped and loaded

Does anyone know the actual weight difference between a stripped 1M and a loaded 1M?

Thanks in advance...

Maybe there should be a thread about the weight of the drivers, as that will be the source of greater variance. i'll gladly diet for the nav and h/k.

Good for you! How much are you weighing now so we can track your progress!

The big weight is the seats, but in this car the manual seats must way about the same as the powered. Also the manual seats have powered bolsters...

My car has every option, power seats is the one I could do without as they can be hefty...loved the manual Vader seats on my E36 M3.

FWIW I went by my local transfer station and the scales said 3,340 (it is in 10 pound increments). Options on my car are heated seats, USB/iPod/Bluetooth, and Sat radio. Heavy fooking car.

Great info, would be awesome if we have a fully loaded car on the same scales so we have a true delta. We can't really rely on magazines, they are all over the place. For example, this is what Bimmer Mag had to say, and while I hope it is true, I frankly doubt it (their test car had the Premium package and heated seats IIRC).

At 3,296 lbs., the 1 M is only 66 lbs. heavier than the Z4 M Coupe, 165 lbs. heavier than the Z3 M coupe of a decade earlier. These days, when an M3 checks in at 3,704 lbs. after gaining hundreds of pounds with each successive generation, it’s heartening to see the 1 M Coupe tip the scales at 408 lbs. less—and to undercut even its 135i sibling by 143 lbs.

If I had a lighter fuel load it would be down.

Mine is 3327 lbs with a full thank of gas. my car is more ot less fully loaded (only hifi pro, not HK) and the weight includes manual, tirekit etc.
The weight was profesionally measured when setting up the KW V3 suspension.

Scales can, and will, vary from site to site. At my transfer station they are looking to subtrack a loaded weight to an empty weight.

for sure. Mine was done on a professional weighting scale for setting up car suspensions (street and professional racing cars). These scales are very accurate and not comparable to a weighting scale used to way trucks / cars to eg invoice waste disposal

Yes, real scales are much better. But I was on a quick run to the dump so I thought what the heck let's see what it comes in at.

Were you in the car?
Was the fuel tank full?

That could make all the difference.

Scales can vary, but static weight stations the national bureau of standards require a +/- of 1% for initial certification, and then they must be maintained to within +/-2%.

There has to be some decent level of accuracy as these things are used for legal enforcement of trucks. There can be heavy fines and driver shut down if loads are too heavy. So, the weight can't be too far off.
Granted, this implies that the scales are actually maintained, and some enforcement of checking compliance exists.

On a 3200lb car being off by +2% would result in an over reading of 64lbs. That's pretty inaccurate, but a good reference.

No, I got out of the car and then when I got back in, the guys made fun of me with a whole new number.

I think I was about 3/4 of a tank.

So anybody in Connecticut got a set of Ruggles Scales we can use?

It is interesting the the 1m is actually only about 200 pounds or less lighter than the m3. They always make it seem like such a big difference but if you look at the guys that weighed their cars as the weigh stations, they all came in around 3500-3550. Plus or minus 50 pounds depending on driver and plus/minus 60 pounds for full or quarter tank, these things can be only 100-140 pounds difference.

I would not say that makes the 1m as light as its cracked up to be

This is what Pres Bush called 'fuzzy math'. Clearly the difference is more than 100-140lbs you state, you must own an M3

See above ^^^ official #s as posted by Bimmer Magazine:
  • 1///M = 3,296 lbs
  • M3 = 3,704 lbs

I may suck at arithmetic, but I still think that is more than the 100-140lb you seem to claim.

Doesn't the DCT alone add another 70lbs.
