Job Openings @ APEX - Accountant

Are you someone who feels anxiety if you do not check and recheck your debits and credits for accuracy and common sense accounting? Is your goal to be an expert in the details while overseeing and managing the full accounting process? Are you up to the challenge of working with a team that will hold you accountable and expect you to be proactive? If so, you’re already on the right path to becoming the next Accounting Staff hire at APEX Race Parts. Read on!

Who are we?

APEX Race Parts, located in the San Francisco East Bay, is a fast growing company with a start up vibe that produces high performance automotive wheels and wheel accessories. Problems are solved with a heavy emphasis on custom technology, modern tools, and innovation. We’re a work-hard, play-hard group that can transition from intense meetings to casual fun at the drop of a hat. We have a tight-knit group of dedicated individuals and we attack monumental objectives together. Although the company was founded on a passion for cars, it’s our passion for building something lasting, meaningful, and gratifying that really keeps all of us going.

Objective:

Be the member of our team who owns every responsibility associated with completing full-cycle daily/weekly/monthly accounting activities. Keep us as accurate and current as possible so we can make key business decisions. Continuously systemize and automate your processes to ensure the accounting department can handle our ever-growing transactional volume.

Job Summary:

You’ll be working under the guidance of our Financial Controller whose own objective is to make high level decisions based off the vital work you complete. This position isn’t just about documenting the past; you will be helping drive change in the present. Meaningful cost savings and clues to our best strategies lie within our financials. We will train you to use our systems, but you need to arrive with solid accounting fundamentals.

Your success in this role relies on your thoroughness and attention to detail. As the saying goes: “garbage data in, garbage data out.” Every memo field left blank and every vague expense entered without supporting detail is a drag on our success. You will keep customers oblivious to the work that goes into processing their orders by assisting our sales team with any exceptions that need your support.

Our foundation is built on an enterprise-level ERP system that we’re continually customizing to automate our accounting processes. We’re looking for individuals who understand that creating efficiencies and automations are opportunities for advancement, and not threats to becoming obsolete. In our pursuit of ever-increasing growth rates, the only thing allowing us to keep up with work is not wasting brain power and talent on grunt work. Mastery of all responsibilities and new found bandwidth is rewarded with promotions and new responsibilities. Under the guidance and mentorship of our Controller, this role has a long runway of learning and career advancement.

Who are you?
  • You take thorough notes instead of trying to memorize instructions or assignments, ensuring you deliver on all things requested of you.
  • Others don’t need to check in and remind you of your deliverables because you consistently complete projects by the deadlines you’ve committed to.
  • Missing deadlines gives you knots in your stomach, so you take every due date seriously.
  • Improving the efficiency of a process or automating it all together puts a smile on your face.
  • A great listener that can read between the lines and succinctly notate key takeaways from meetings.
  • You can follow step-by-step instructions and you don’t get sloppy over time.
  • You hunt for wrong, extra, and missing digits like a hawk because you know entering a $10000.00 check versus a $1000.00 check is absolutely unacceptable.
  • Doing something over or doing it the hard way is your preferred method if it’s in the customer’s and company’s best interest.
  • As part of the team, you are engaged and provide earnest suggestions and contributions helping build a strong company culture around our core values and company purpose.
  • You can calmly handle multiple one-off requests even when it’s a busy day.
Your duties will include:
  • Accounts Payable
  • Day-to-day processing of invoices, expense reports, payments to vendors and credits associated
  • Preparing AP check packages for review
  • Credit card payment management and reconciliation of statements
  • Accounts Receivable
  • All Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • California BOE Sales Tax filings/payments
  • Payroll processing, including; vacation/sick-time tracking and commission calculations
  • Workers’ Compensation management
  • Employee expense reports and reimbursements
  • Assisting CEO, Controller, and staff with projects as needed
  • Maintenance of company calendar
  • Occasional customer service; accepting walk-in customer payments
  • Take real-time detailed notes during meetings
  • Rapidly train yourself with company training material
  • Organization of company files and records
To qualify for this position the candidate must have:
  • AA degree with related field coursework
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field coursework (highly preferred)
  • At least 2-5+ years of accounting/bookkeeping experience in a small to mid-size company
  • Typing speed of at least 50 wpm
  • Proficiency with PC and Mac computers
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Experience using Google Apps
  • Experience with NetSuite is a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Aptitude to learn new tasks and procedures quickly
  • A pleasant customer service oriented personality
  • Capacity to work under time constraints and deadlines
  • Office management experience a plus
This is a full-time position with benefits. Benefits include health, dental, and paid vacation. Compensation is dependent on overall qualifications and experience. We are an equal opportunity employer.

How to Apply:
For immediate consideration, please email your resume along with a cover letter to apexjobopenings+accountant@gmail.com. In your cover letter please tell us what the pinnacle of your career will be.
