P21S Polishing Soap

I have a 128i with the "factory" exhaust tips. They are not stainless steel but rather have a brushed look to them. I simply can not get all the soot off them. Has anyone used the P21S polishing soap on the factory exhaust tips? I have already tried P21S wheel cleaner on them and P21S total auto wash.

I think it was Phil from Detailer's DOmain who said he uses a gel wheel cleaner on the exhaust pipes. I use P21S gel wheel cleaner on my exhaust tips. Then I use an old micro fiber towel - works well.

Wipe down the (inside and outside) exhaust tips to remove initial carbon deposit and any water ‘spots’ using P21S Total Auto Wash and a micro fibre towel.

Polish using P21S® Polishing Soap (not intended for use on painted, clear coated or anodized surfaces) and/or Optimum Metal Polish and a terry cloth towel on the insides of the tips

For really stuborn stains use a metal polish (OPT Optimum Metal Polish) and #0000 synthetic steel wool

I did use the P21S polishing soap this weekend and the exhaust tips look great. It was simple and mine were pretty gunked up. I actually called our local BMW dealership to find out if the tips that came on my 128i were anodized. Interesting that neither parts or service had an answer to that. The parts guy said the book identifies them as "aluminum look". Since the P21S polishing soap is not supposed to be used on anodized surfaces I hope mine weren't. They do look fantastic now, the polishng soap did the trick (quite easily).
