When are we going to get a bad review on this car? The worst I've heard are complaints the interior is boring and that it oversteers easilyd. I think the interior is tidy and efficient and the neutral to oversteer behavior is very welcome. Maybe I'm biased but I can't find a negative review. Writers have to find something wrong with every car but BMW seems to have muted them.

^ Some have mentioned a harsh ride but that doesn't bother me one bit.

I think the general concensus complaint is that this car just isn't much fun at all. You need to read between the lines to see this glaring problem.

I am sure you will find some by asking m3 owners. Seriously, if HPFP related issue is fixed this car won't get any bad rep.

Well, it did get a review that declared the rs3 the common man's pick, and the 1m the rare driver's pick.

"Actually, the other BMW the 1M reminds me of is 1998's M Coupe, the slightly daft but very entertaining Z3 bsed bread van that some engineers apparently cooked up as a weekend project (and possibly a practical joke)."

Oh dear god YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Welcome back my dearly missed beloved!!!

I think BMW has strayed from the original M car so far that now they have something back to basics, everyone is just happy to drive something for the old-school enthusiast....

Notice I am no longer saying just enthusiast, but old-school enthusiast. I have learned over the last few years that what excites many of the new generation are glowing switches, technology, NAV, IPODS, paddles, electronic suspensions, super stiff fast trucks. In all fairness they are enthusiasts too so I think Old-School enthusiasts is the better term.

I am actually a IT guy myself and I love technology as long as it doesn't mute or degrade the driving experience.

Many in the media are happyto see something like this after so long that they are overlooking some of the negatives....rightly so...the positives outweigh the negatives. Even the WRX has gone soft so this is a breath of fresh air...albeit a little expensive and difficult to get fresh air.

I believe it was Dr. Kay Segler who said anyone can put out a cheap car nowadays that goes fast so BMW has to compete on driving dynamics. I think THIS is the most brilliant thing about the 1M. If you read the comparison reviews, the 1M has not actually been the fastest. In CD review, the TT RS was faster both 0-60 and on the track. Another review found the Audi RS3 to be faster but despite that, they STILL said the 1M is the car they would buy because it was more engaging..... more fun!

That is the brilliance of the 1M.

So, did you guys pay 64K and some change for your 1M? That's what TG is saying the cost is. 40,020 pounds.

you can't use UK prices and exchange rates to accurately predict US car prices.

I am in the market at the moment. It was either a 2011.75 M3 or a 2012 1M. After driving turbo cars, owning a 135i, and owning previous M3s, the reason you'd pick a M3 is strictly an illogical one based on feel. I have come to despise turbos. Maybe they aren't ready yet, but I dislike the lack of induction noise, and overall characteristic of the throttle response. I feel like journalists these days have come to expect a bit of turbo lag and inconsistency.

So although the 1M may even be quicker than the M3 in various areas, I'm still picking up the more expensive M3 just because of "feel" (and because they are a good deal right now--I feel that the 1M is overpriced and financing rates are far too high in Canada on them). In addtion; re: price. It's about $10K difference between an M3 and a 1M here in Canada. Though after incentives and negotiation that gap gets quite small. Our dealers aren't budging on the price for the 1M.

You can't go wrong with either, though. The last of the NA M3s and this 1M will both be sought-after cars, the former perhaps by M purists and the latter possibly by tuners.
