Question 1 series Nose mask

I'm looking to get a good nose mask for my 135i, and considering the BMW one sold @United BMW. Anybody got pics of that fitted?

The reason I'm going for a mask and not a clear bra, is because I don't need to use the mask all the time only when I'm traveling between cites which isn't much once I arrive at the destination it will be removed and put in the trunk.

Good idea, it is ugly as balls.

Get the clear bra and be done with it.

I don't need something permanent, that's why I'm going for the mask. its only going to be on the car for a couple of hours.

I've got it and it works like a champ.

I only use it in winter though... For me the clear bra option wasn't an option because they look like shit on black cars 98.9% of the time and I really only wanted it seasonally.

I know bavauto has one, or had one. I think you can actually get it cheaper from the manufacturer though.

Actually I had lots of dirt/salt/grime and survived the winter with no scratches. You just need to wax/seal your hood before winter (something you should do anyway) then remove it each time you wash your car. If you wash it with it on you will wash the dirt under it and then you'll have a problem.

I ran it through the washing machine at the end of the season and it is now ready to be installed next winter.

Don't pay attention to the haters.. LOL. Yes it looks terrible, but IMO on a black car a clear bra looks worse (year round).

Years ago I would buy the Bras for my cars. My thinking now days is the Black Bra does not look good and you can see the clear stuff easily. I just have the nose area touched up. Even if I have to do it twice while I own the car it is worth the extra cost to not have anything on my car. If I do get a large chip I will touch it up myself.

I installed a clear bra from BMW. Easy install and looks fine.

Depending on the fit and how fast you drive, flutter and vibration can really impact the finish underneath. You don't have that problem with a clear bra.

The issue here is sanding, thats the only reason I want to use this. Its because the roads between cities go through the desert basically and sometimes the weather would be dusty and sand would blow across the road giving a sanding effect. I don't like the line that is visible from the clear bra that can't be removed the mask can be removed when I 'm done with my trip .

@Feyd: I have a euro style license plate (long ones). Do you think the bra would fit OK on top of that?

Nose Mask

The full masks are tedious and a big pain. However, I've always purchased the Colgan Sport Masks for all my Bimmers. The sport masks protect the vulnerable front end of your hood. I just bought a 2011 128i this past August. Finally, after 8 weeks, I just got my mask from Colgan. That clear stuff it worthless. Unlike that clear junk, a mask will prevent all chips and DENTS too. The mask will also absorb or deflect debris from causing further damage. And with a little care, they won't scratch your hood either.

Nah, no they won't. I've had 7 Bimmers, 7 sport masks, not one scratch. A little care like taking them off when wet, keeping them free from debris and keeping your hood waxed and you'll be fine. If you do a lot of highway miles, a mask is the best investment you'll make to protect your Bimmer. Much better than that 3M protection film.

I just want to point out to most of the people posting about rain.... you should read where the people live.... Some places that isn't as much of an issue as others, as in the OP's location.

I take it you intend to do a road trip soon? or do you do often trips city to city.

BMW should have a mask for your car, but you'll likely have to go to a local dealer to find it for your plates.

or do like the other guy suggests, get the sport mask.

(though i'm not sure how much of a hurry your in.)

@m7ammed

Regarding the clear-bra, do not get the BMW kit. That only covers 1/2 the hood, and leaves a line (which I personally hate).

I purchased a clear bra from a third party -- the entire hood was wrapped. The only lines visible are around the Roundel, and around the two windshield washer nozzles. You can also get pieces to cover the entire front end plus fenders, with lines that are barely noticeable. Much better than the hood BMW kit, and also better than the mask, which doesn't even cover 1/4 of the hood. (And believe me, you'll always get paint damage at the part of the front that you leave uncovered. It's inevitable.)

Obviously, your car, your choice, but I recommend you give the clear bra a second look.

Don't get the mask! Pick your poison: get sanded by the sand blasting in your travels, or, get sanded by the underside of your mask!

When my M3 was new, first thing I bought for it was a mask. I forget the source, but it was a good one... After some time, I noticed fine scratching in the clear coat which was a bitch to get out.. Took many days with various levels of polishing compound applied with my Porter Cable... I vowed then and there Id have been better off sans mask and promised myself Id never apply one again.

Do you have problem with yours headlight washer. I just install my nose mask and the holes for the headlight washer don't fit perfectly.

Do you think this can broke the headlight washer?
