I went to BMW Bellevue today to pick up my license plate, saw ANOTHER montego blue there. It's a 128i and I wasn't sure it's already sold or waiting to be.

there is OE BMW perf carbon fiber kit, gloss black. I would be all over the silver carbon fiber they use for the Z4! No options for that from what i found...i figure i could wrap it but dont know who has silver carbon fiber wrap. In all black interior car i like how the silver breaks things up a bit..but 993 911 car does look SWEET

I went for the walnut with coral red interior; gives it a visual warmth for my taste. Doing iCarbon lip, diffuser, hood and trunk lid to shave off some weight and add more aggressive stance to it.

535xi goes off lease in March and 135i on order. E60 is nice, but looking foreward to getting back to a smaller car. As ordered configuration below.

Put winter shoes on the car just in time. Have Conti Extreme contact DWS on 17" wheels from the tire rack. Put on TPMS so I wouldn't have problems with the dashboard warnings.

Yeah, I had two opportunities for ED and passed on both because of poor timing, but I kick myself for not doing it anyway. Next time I will wait until summer so I can enjoy the Alps with warm, dry roads.

I pick mine up end of march so hopefully the weather will be good but summer in the alps would be awesome. Maybe next time

If you're as anal as I am, consider buying an inexpensive clear bra kit and self-applying it in Germany before driving away from the delivery center, then removing it at the port drop-off and getting a professional installation in the US. A front-end kit should only cost a few hundred dollars as temporary protection.

One reason I didn't do ED in the winter is because I cringe at the thought of rock chips and "power sanding" on fresh paint at 150MPH. As it is I drove my car, with 7 miles on the odo, from BMW Seattle directly to the detail shop for a Ventureshield treatment. It was painful to leave the car for two days just minutes after taking delivery, but the results are worth it.

That's not an easy answer. Since 2000 I've owned 6 cars, all of which had a full 3M kit installed after purchase at four different Seattle area installers (an X-Pel dealer in Lynnwood, StonGuard and two Accutint locations). From past experience, I am fairly certain that I've seen all the possible good and bad results with the 3M film. Accutint in Bellevue has done the best work and saw the last 3 vehicles.

For the 135 I wanted to switch to VentureShield (yes I know it's owned by 3M) for the improved film clarity, but when I called Accutint (who is an authorized VentureShield installer) they steered me towards 3M and said they didn't have good things to say about VentureShield. That may have been the warning for what was about to come... a new world of expectations and quality that I wasn't ready for, and that I still don't fully understand.

Because Accutint wasn't recommending VentureShield, I went to another shop which I didn't have previous experience with, but that came highly recommended from friends. I wasn't happy with the finished work, at least compared to 3M work I've had on previous cars. Some panel edges aren't rolled, the side mirrors have micro bubbles and a rough film texture, and there are relief cuts on the front hood edge that I haven't seen before when using 3M.

When I complained to the installer, they defended their work and claimed it was the best they could do with the VentureShield film. Their defense is that VentureShield is a more difficult material to work with... it's thinner, the material is more difficult to stretch and the adhesive is significantly weaker than 3M.

I can't argue their claims, and logically it makes sense because all those factors would contribute to the overall higher clarity of the film. While 3M supposedly installs "cleaner" it's prone to shrinkage, yellowing and orange peel, all of which I've personally experienced.

I don't know what to think about my experience. I'm somewhat disappointed with the end result, but if it's really the best work they can do, I shouldn't expect anything better. I believe the installer does high quality work (I've seen good results from their work on other vehicles) but apparently I, or the 135, am the exception.

PM me if you want specific names.

Thanks for the info on clear bra installers in the area. Still not sure I'm going to clear or not.

Car is to be at the US port on the 16th then transport up the coast to BMW Seattle. Starting to assemble little items for the car this morning. Ordered a Zeckhausen modified CDV and GoMiniGo front license plate bracket. I went without the front plate on a previous Z4 but it was not daily driven. I don't want to invite hassel by the law but want to retain unblemished bumper. Hope I'm pleased with the product. No disapointments with my previous Zeckhausen CDV on the Z4.
