Interesting video 135i vs Evo X vs new Ford Focus RS
Enjoy:
http://motoring.sky.com/features/vid...iple-test.aspx I still prefer the 135i - but I would do really. Mad. |

I sounded like the 135 would have won if they weren't on a rally stage.
EVO mag. also said the FQ was a pita to live with. Something like "Not a lot to like". |

The focus is pretty sick. Green racing seats!

That one is easy. It would chew up and crap out their vaunted pony car that has double the cylinders. Ford can't take that kind of marketing hit. Rednecks want their live axle Rustang GT to be the fastest car in the trailer park.

make the focus a coupe (not a hatch) and make it rwd and i would be all over it. hatchback + fwd FTL in my opinion. i really don't understand how these guys were rating the cars. looks are subjective so they should have left that out (and thats what they seemed to like the most about the RS). they raved about the engine in the BMW but that didn't seem to have significant sway on scoring. also, the 135i is too smooth? its about how well the car handles, not how bumpy it is when driving; do these guys like bumpy? if they do, i'll take them for a ride in my S2000. feels like you're in an earthquake when you're on a bumpy road. maybe it would've won!
edit: just checked the specs on the RS and it has a turbocharged Inline-5 motor making 301bhp. and it goes from 0-62mph in 5.9 secs? these guys chose the RS because of its looks, not power. they even agreed that the car "pushes" in turns, so i guess they didn't take that into consideration when they chose the RS.

It would be too expensive (it's made on the new Focus platform that's not available in the US) - at $30k or more, who would pick a FWD hatchback over the 370Z, Genesis Coupe, R32 etc. RS badge has zero cachet here.
Not to mention, it would get it's ass handed to it by all these RWD or AWD cars in any performance metric. It's pretty, it's quick, it sounds amazing but that's about it. |

RS products in Europe are VERY expensive - again I am not sure who would pay $30-40k in the US for a FWD Ford hatchback. And frankly I am not sure what I dislike more: the solid rear axle in the 300 HP Mustang, or the torque steer in a 300 HP FWD car. |

exactly. the gti is cheaper than the RS. however, i don't dislike that the mustang comes with a solid axle. its probably more track-friendly with less wheel hop. and i hate torque steer; its why i'll never own a fwd performance car again.

In Europe, the RS will apparently start at E 39k. A GTI starts at E 22k. The cost difference is staggering. That's why it was tested against an Evo and 135i, they are all now in the same price bracket. Quote:
And it was cheap. And I didn't want one either. |

In Britain a base Evo is 28k pounds and if you convert that to dollars it would be $40k. However in the U.S. the base price of an Evo is $32k. |
