Jeremy,
That is also my solution - my doors never auto lock. I do not get this "feature". I have no little kids so nobody is going to try exiting the car before I stop it. I had the delivery specialist at the PC program both keys to never auto lock. Works for me. Jim

When I was a kid, my mother subscribed to the belief that if the doors were locked, they could not fly open in case of an accident. So when she was in the car, it would not move until all doors were locked. And I'm sure that many folks want them locked for security when stopped in traffic.
As BMW is simply making the option to keep doors locked automatically if desired and since it is easily programmed one way or the other by the owner, I fail to see the problem. Tom |

For me even though Vancouver isn't an overly violent place I just feel that having them locked when I'm not paying attention is better than not having them locked. Pulling the door handle twice to open it is not a hassle in my opinion so why not just be overly safe?

I guess with a convertible it is less of an issue. I pretty much always have a little knife on me so I could go out through the top if necessary. But I see about as much down as up side relative to wrecks. On one hand, the door should be less likely to fly open - but it should not open regardless. I also am a little concerned that it could be more difficult to open once the car comes to rest if it is locked.
I rarely lock a car door because I don't want somebody to jump in the car. I have done it and will continue to but most of the time, I at least think I am in safe enough areas this should not be an issue. I am also larger than average and in decent shape so I like to think there are easier targets for somebody inclined to do something they should not to pick on. Someday I may regret my habits but so far it has worked out OK. If my top is down, which it is as much as reasonably possible, it also doesn't make a lot of difference if the doors are locked. Jim

Yeah. You have to have the memory seats, or something like that for it to work properly. I'm not sure if you have to have the Premium package, but I know it has something to do with the seats that are included in it. |

I have a 128i Vert and it has the Premium Package and this option is NOT part of it. I believe it's a separate option.

If you've got the Premium package and it isn't working, I'm pretty sure something is broken. Car with Premium should definatly have it. Put the mirror control switch to the left hand side, and put it in reverse, and try it. If it's not working, contact your dealer and let them see what's going on with it. I'm almost positive it's included in that package. You do have power memory seats...right? |

They COULD put an option in set-up (just like auto lock on/off is there) That would either a)unlock in Park, b) Not at all, or c) Unlock at engine shut-down.

If you want to have the car automatically unlock, I believe there's a third party solution - mods4cars remotekey. I have this on my Porsche and it provides the missing features.

I am so accustomed to tugging the handle twice to get the door open, it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

why not bump an old thread.
i'm curious how to troubleshoot my "auto lock after some time" feature not working right. i want the car to lock itself when i walk away. i've dialed it in in the menu, but after 30 minutes, it it still not self locking....

I do not know of any way to set the car to lock as you walk away. But I changed my car to locking when I get to 10mph after learning how to set it to auto unlock when the key is removed (I do not have comfort access). It has been several years since I programmed this but it is one or more of these coding changes that does it:
KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_FB > aktiv KOMFORT_EJECT > aktiv ER_KEYOUT_AUTOVR > aktiv
