Just one? I'm just hoping that I can keep it as clean as possible moving forward to avoid having to take it to a car wash unless absolutely necessary. The joys of living in an apartment in LA. It's horrifying though to watch them not be able to figure out how to put the car in neutral with the DCT. And I'm not sure going to one of those self-serve places and having to use their equipment is much better, but may go that route moving forward as I have my own bucket and sponge. Needless to say though, I don't like racing the self-serve clock and like to take my time, both costing me tons of quarters and pissing off angry people waiting to get into the bay.

What I'd give for my own garage and hose...

LA sucks.

Please do not take your car to a car wash ever.

To elaborate, by car wash, I mean it's a hand wash, not some automatic thing with those spinning tumbler things and what have you. So, it goes on a track, machine sprays soap all over the car, and a guy on each side with wash mits go completely over the car. And of course, I make sure I'm the first car of the day every time.

Alas, been pretty much forced to take it somewhere for many years due to time (80+ hour work-weeks), limited options in my area, and very limited use of my left hand (2 wrist surgeries and still messed up from airbag in LAST 135i).

=( Believe me, I don't like doing it.

This is the key, then, if there are no other options. I ask people who use car washes (that aren't touchless) if they'd hop in a communal shower in the morning and ask their neighbors to pass the washcloth.

Pretty sure y'all are sick of seeing my car, so Isabelle is on hiatus from this thread until my custom IS plates arrive.

Ya, I could never get sick of looking at IS's either, though I'd still kill to see a titanium silver coupe. =(

Congrats on the car entering production. The 1-800 lady (which some of us affectionately call Brunehilde) tell you the estimated completion date? I think it's usually 9 days, then around another 9 days (on average) to get on a boat.

And if it makes you feel any better, while I still debate which of the 7 dealers within 10 miles of me to take for my post break-in service, I saw a CPO 135 in deep sea blue which you might enjoy looking at since it's such a rare color. Looks really dark in their photoshoot, probably how it looks in dim lighting.

oh cool! that CPO looks great!

i called and asked...it was a guy who answered...and he told me the estimated completion date is August 12th? Seems like a long time to build it! Perhaps they are adding extra HP for me? lol

When Breunhilde, the friendly 1-800 # updates to into production, it will state what the estimated completion date is. There might be some german holidays or something in there, too, as I know someone who ordered a new cayman yesterday and were told the porsche factory is closed until august 16. So, call Breundhilde, her completion date should be accurate and might say the same August 12th. No extra hp for you! You're stuck with a dinky 320hp. I wonder though, seeing that the new m performance package for the 435 seems to bump it 32hp and 37 lb-ft of torque, why don't we get the same jumps since it's the same engine. They should update our PPK!

Do your research. Call each service department, and say you have an E82 135is. If he/she knows what you have and WHY you want a break in service, get it done there. If they don't know what an E82 is, run. If they don't know that the 135is is a car BMW sold, run. If they try to convince you that the break-in is not called for because they assume you want them to pay for it, run.

Or you can go the round about way and ask them some E30 questions just for the fun of it. The only reason I do service (that I pay for) at the dealership is because my SA is an enthusiast, CCA member, club racer, and member of the same "car community" as I am, so he takes care of me as all customers _should_ be taken care of. Sadly, this is the exception with BMW service.

The horror stories I've heard/experiences are too many to even begin here, so do your due diligence! You don't want any schmuck opening up your transmission and diff.

By the by, if you're in NJ, go to Circle BMW for service and ask for Tim.

My first BMW and I must say, this car is everything I ever wanted and then some. Here are some pics the SA sent me before I picked her up.

Car is Fully loaded except Auto Highbeams.

Better pics are coming soon.

Looking good and welcome.

I don't know if anybody on here got the auto highbeams, maybe one person. Don't think anybody has gotten the active steering $1550 option either.

I didn't order either one. I decided against the active steering simply because I didn't want extra hardware between the road and the steering wheel that might reduce steering feel. Not sure if that is a valid concern, but I didn't want to spend money to find out the hard way. I loved the steering in the non-AS 135i cars that I test drove... I'm sure I'll be content with my decision.

Ya, I don't know a single person that has ordered the active steering and don't think the car needs it at all as the steering as is seems perfect to me. Just a random, expensive option nobody seems to be interested in much or get.

In late 2009, I was close to the end of my lease on a 2007 335ia, and was looking for an MT6. I found a program car (335 E90) with MT6 on a dealer lot in MO - I was so thrilled to have actually found a well equipped 335 with MT, I figured I would learn to live with the active steering.

3 yrs later when it was time to decide "love it or give it back", the primary reason I turned it in was the active steering.

It never felt right, (like the 2007 or an E46), it wasn't linear, and was lousy on the track. IMHO, active steering was an answer from BMW engineering to a question that no one asked.

Avoid at all costs is my recommendation. I can live with HPFP issues in my BMW, but not lousy steering. Electric steering feel in the F30 is why I have a 135is on order and not an F30 335.

Interesting...and definitely some good and useful firsthand experience with it. I never had any remote interest in it at all, but always was just a little curious about it since the configurator and brochure didn't really give much info on it, nobody seems to ever get it on their car, and I love the steering as is, so wouldn't want to mess with it.

Now if only they'd bring back an SMG option! Kidding!

Agree 100%. The F30 335 is possibly a more capable car, but the driving experience and personality of the E82 135 is why I ordered a 135is rather than some of the other contenders that ended up on my short list after driving EVERYTHING, which included the Boss 302, G37 IPL, 370Z, S4, and of course, the F30 335i. They are all GREAT cars that I would be happy to own and drive, but they didn't speak to me after each test drive the way the 135i did. I'm sure BMW will perfect the electric steering technology within a few years, but until then...
