Need help buying the correct oil.
I had the yellow oil indicator light start turning on after I would turn my car off, so I ran the oil test and it said to add 1 quart of oil. What kind of oil should I add (preferably something available locally)? Have not had an oil change since I bought the car so I have no clue what kind of oil is currently in it. I live in the Midwest if that is relevant to the weight I need.

I use Mobil 1 0-40.
There are compatible brands from other manufacturers as well... Search the site.

Mobil 1 0-40W European formula used to be an accepted oil by BMW but it isn't any more. If you find a quart that says it is still LL1 and accepted by BMW, it would be fine. Last time I looked at Walmart, the only BMW acceptable oil that I found was Castrol 0-40W European Formula. They will say LL1 and recommended by BMW on the container if they are OK. You may not find BMW oil at every Walmart but mine has the Castrol. Nearly any auto parts place should have at least one BMW accepted oil.
