Rpm is independent of speed. The speed your car is moving at and what gear you are in will determine the rpm your engine will be running at.

Did you change to snow tires recently? Or change wheels at all? It wouldn't surprise me that a small difference in speed in 2nd gear would equate to 500rpm difference, say, 3-5mph may be 500rpm worth.

I know my car it's something in the gearbox, everything else is fine

Have you changed your seat settings recently?

If not your transmission is shot and you will probably need to buy a new one.

Is it making any sound? Or are the RPMs just higher? Find a decent incline hill and do a few 2nd gear pulls up it. If your clutch is shot, your RPMs should shoot up.

I wouldn't be dropping into 2nd at 50mph as frequently as it seems you do. That's a huge strain on your trans. Do a pull In second and third and watch your rpms. If they populate faster than normal it's obv your clutch. A worn clutch usually slips under acceleration, not normal load. --- normally--- that's case by case.

If 2nd is 5000rpm how is this extra strain on his transmission? Please explain.

If its auto it is my understanding it would rev match on downshift, theoretically this wouldn't cause any extra strain on the transmission. And by your logic any gear at 5000rpm would be equally damaging.

Please explain.
