How many M3's, X5M, X6M etc do BMW actually sell per year/in total. Is 450 (for UK) a lot or a little??

Unless they are talking completely out of their ass, or they're getting 6 right off the bat and then no more; that makes 17 in all of Canada kind of hard to believe

Canada has 41 BMW dealers. I find it hard to believe they are not getting at least 40 cars. So I'm going to go with 40 cars as a working number until someone comes up with something more definitive.

UK: 450
Australia: 100 (plus may get some of Japan's allocation)
France: 100
Switzerland: 140
Sweden: 60
Canada: 40 (can anyone confirm?)
USA: approx 650?
South Africa: 50?
Low Lands: 90 ( Luxemburg;Belgium and Netherlands)
Singapore: 20
Germany: 600
Italy: 50?
Hong Kong: 8-12
China: 0 (until confirmed otherwise)
TOTAL: ~2,360 accounted for

Lots of obvious gaps still:
Norway/Denmark
Russia
Poland and East European countries
Malaysia and Indonesia
South America
NZ must be good for at least 20 sheep, sorry, cars.

The decision to allocate the 1M seems to be based at least in part on the popularity of M cars in each market. So 450 is quite a high number for the UK relative to the US at 650, but UK buys M cars. Australia has (BMW Australia claims) highest per capita penetration of M cars in the world-- hence we are getting 100-130 cars in a country with only 22 million people.

Garage List
I would say even the 40 number for Canada is way way way too low. I recon it'll be triple digits, which is less than 2.5 cars per dealer.

I guess you could estimate based on ratio of Canadian dealers (41) to US dealers (370?). So would imply about 70 cars to Canada.

Obviously that's a very crude approach!!

Correct! Canada is getting 200 cars with the possibility of 20 more if production allows for it.

I'm wondering if the "limited numbers" are actually that limited vs number of units likely to sell if there was no allocation.

Based on this it seems clear that at least 3,000 1Ms will be produced. There are a lot of countries still missing from this list.

Sad reality is that the SA at a dealer often doesn't have the facts right. We have seen that time and again on this forum.

To them the 1M is just one of many products they are selling, and a relatively unimportant one too compared with core vehicles like 3-series and 5-series.

BMW Australia's press release on the 1M said 2700 cars in total (or was it 2800 - anyone has the press release?).
