Got my self a new 135is

Hi all,

New BMW owner here. I picked up a new 135is on January 2nd. I haven't really had a lot of chance to drive it yet. But one thing I did notice.

The car pulls to the left a little when I brake from time to time. It doesn't seem to be related to how hard I am braking. It kind of have a similar feel to torque steer you get in FWD cars but happening during braking instead of moving from stop. And it doesn't happen every time just sometimes.

Any idea what could be causing this? The car has DCT and Active steering.

I've never driven a car with this big of brakes so I am not sure what to expect.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Congrats on the new car! Any chance you got the cashmere silver one from Crevier?

I'm sure others can chime in on the pulling while braking, but don't think that's normal and you may have a tire or rotor or something a lil loose or the alignment could just be really out of whack. Since it's new, I'd take it in and have it looked at. These darn IS's seem to have a lot of weird lil things happen to them at the port when they their fancy IS stuff put on. While it sucks to have to take it in so early, that doesn't sound good or safe and might lead to other issues if something is wrong with it, so I'd have it looked at ASAP, especially if it's pulling significantly. With the crazy drivers in this city, I wouldn't take any chances.

Pulling aside, congrats again and bet you got a great deal on it, too! We demand pictures!

Doesn't happen to me but I don't have the active steering. How many miles are on it? What speed does it occur? It might be that the brakes aren't set in yet. You could call the dealer and have them check it out.

either a brake problem or a bad tire. Either way, if no crown or weird cracks on the road, it should brake straight. With mine, if any weird ridges or crown on the road, pulls all over the place braking, but expect that with low profile tires. Otherwise no issues so definitely bring it up on your first visit.

And congrats on the purchase!

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind words.

I think the pull might be happening with imperfections on road surface. I hadn't been really paying attention to it when I brake but road around my area are pretty crappy all around. So it could well be the cause.

I am going to go find a smooth stretch of a road and test it out. If it doesn't happen then, it's probably what it it.

If my memory serves me right, mine is 569/586. LeMans Blue with Blk/blue.

I didn't get the one from Crevier, sorry gregthegr8.

My car does that if I let it sit long enough for the rotors to rust alittle. Goes away after some driving! Congrats on your buy! Pics please!

Congrats on the new car! Haven't noticed any strange pulling while breaking, might want to try to replicate the issue with a bmw tech in the car.

If you are ever in the southbay area look out for my black 135is zipping around.

Is this your first time on driving with low profile tires? These things tramline pretty bad and RFT's don't make it any better.

Great color choice.

I recall the roads around SoCal. Highways with grooved pavement and secondary roads with suspect blacktop. Lived there for 8 years. The 10 and the 60 were the worst.

You get it sorted out yet?

I did more extensive driving and this time really paying attention to the road I am and if there are any imperfections/grooves when I brake. And I am confident it was just caused by bad roads around my house and nothing wrong with the car.

And oh man I didn't realize how bumpy Southbound 405 just north of 101 until I drove on it with the IS.

Glad to hear you think it's just our crappy roads.

And speaking of crappy roads, ya, the 405 S almost feels like a million tiny speed bumps, especially just south of the 10 towards the airport.

Are you or have you considered swapping out the runflats for high quality non-runflats? I can't recommend it enough, especially given how awful the freeways and roads are around here. Will make the ride so much more compliant and they will outperform the runflats in virtually every way and last twice as long. Food for thought. You'll know what I mean when you hit a real bump with the runflats and get a major back-breaking hit that'll knock a filling out. =P
