Australian Sales figures for 1 Series
235 1 Series Coupe/Conv were sold in Australia in June 2008! This makes it the second-best seller in the Sports category, behind only the 3 Series Coupe/Conv (347), and ahead of the VW Eos (194).
The 1 Series Coupe/Conv was also BMW's 4th best seller behind the 3 Series (670), X5 (497) and 3 Series Coupe/Conv (347). The 1 Series Hatchback sold 138 in June. BMW sold a total of 2258 cars in June which is an all time record for BMW in Australia. Not too surprising with the threatened hike in LCT expected to apply from July onwards (retrospectively once it's passed). This easily beats the previous record of 1679 cars way back in July 2000 ... just after GST and LCT replaced the previous import duty system! Notice a common theme here? BMW was also the 12th best selling make in June. Other leading premium brands were Mercedes-Benz (14th, 1766 sales), Audi (15th, 907 sales), Lexus (16th, 741 sales).

Some updated figures for sales of the 1 series coupe/convertible in Australia:
Mar-08, 6 Apr-08, 11 May-08, 157 Jun-08, 235 Jul-08, 133 Aug-08, 170 Total to the end of August is 712. There were plenty of claims originally that there would only be 200 or so coupes allocated for Australia in 2008. Assuming that the figure of 712 cars is evenly split between coupe and convertible, it seems that demand has forced a revision of this decision.

Excellent info Guran - thanks for sharing
Even at those numbers, it confirms what I was certain of and ie: it's still a rare vehicle (ie: coupe and vert) when you spread that number out all over the Country, they can't possibly be all that common...little wonder I've only spotted 3 in months of looking out for them... |

This is a typical standard 'one liner' used by most brands as soon as you get a popular new release, it's all tactics designed to 'scare' you into acting quickly and buying before you 'miss out' LOL
As I've mentioned on another thread, I will be test driving the new Audi TTS shortly and guess what ??? yep, the Audi stealer told me the 1st batch to arrive in Aust. consists of only 200 vehicles and most are spoken for and on-going supply to Aust. will be in very limited numbers, so you'd better grab one quick or else you'll miss out and be waiting 6-8 months... I told him, I'll take the test drive, then ' if ' I decide to purchase one, I'll be back in 6-8 months when all the initial hype and demand has died down and your struggling a little to move them and we'll talk then When I purchased my GMH turbo Astra vert in 2004 same thing, limited run of 200 vehicles so be quick Back in 1999 when I purchased my HSV R8, similar story, regarding 'limited numbers' and it is a locally produced car LOL, simple truth, they would actually make as many as they could sell |

Wraith, yes, but it's still a case of order now and (unless you get a reserved slot) delivery around 2nd or 3rd quarter next year.

Still they will try and make you panic with all the limited numbers and long waiting time conversation that they'll bring up with you, hoping you'll 'knee jerk' and buy something that's already available or place an order...most of us will do or have done the later, so the waiting period comes standard anyway... With regard to the Audi TTS the wait period (as far as I've been advised, (especially if you order custom goodies from the 'Audi exclusive' interior options catalogue) is 6-8 months :eyebulge: Damn |

Figures for September 2008 are out. Aussie sales were 245 1 Series Coupe/Convertibles (965 YTD!) and 102 1 Series hatches. That's the biggest month so far for the coupe/convertible.

Figures for October 2008 are out. A tough month for the car market overall. Aussie sales were 221 1 Series Coupe/Convertibles (1186 YTD) and 122 1 Series hatches. Another good month for the coupe/convertible ... especially since my car is one of those 221! In fact, the 1 Series Coupe/Convertible has now overtaken the X5 and 3 Series Coupe/Convertible to become the second-best selling BMW model this month.

Instead, it looks like the 1er coupe/convertible has eaten into sales of the 3er sedan and coupe/convertible. Not too surprising really.

True, and another factor of course is the LCT increase.

Final figures for 2008 were released today. Aussie sales in December were 192 1 Series Coupe/Convertibles (1532 in 2008) and 99 1 Series hatches (1586 in 2008). The half-year total (Jul-Dec) for the 1 Series Coupe/Convertible (1129) has overtaken the 3 Series Coupe/Convertible (1087), and is not far from overtaking the X5 which has copped a pummelling lately (1290).
