+1 for the water blade. My favorite drying tool. Can get them online or at AutoZone.

I use the Metro Blaster around the wheels, jambs and other spots; then a BIG plush microfiber and quick-detailer to finish.

It is the quickest and most effective solution I've found.

The Metro Blaster is key.

Absolutely true about flooding the panels to minimize drying. Night and day difference in drying the car once I started rinsing it that way.

Not sure what you mean by 'flooding the panels'. I assume that your are referring to having the hose simply pour water onto the surface instead of spraying it on the surface. If that is what your suggesting then absolutely this is a huge time saver. When I do this I there is virtually no water left on the car. Drying the car takes literally 5 minutes with this technique. There is only a few drops of water that needs to be picked up with a microfiber. The wheels and the grill take most of the time within the five minutes as they don't lend themselves to this technique.

Lets not forget the front air dam. Then re-drying it again after you start the car and pull it back into the garage, since it blows out a bunch more water :/

Sounds like you should start drying the car in the garage. 😊

If only my garage was large enough. Its just barely big enough to pull the car in, and then open my driver's side door so I can squeeze out sideways.

Guys,

Top tip, if the car has been waxed, then use the open end of the hose to rinse the car and watch the water sheet off.

I have a metallic black M135i and am a keen detailer, after going through my washing regime I use the Air Force Blaster.

Here is a link from a detailing guru on the pros and cons of using a leaf blower vs a propriety car dryer enjoy.

The typical air blower / waffle weave MF produces fast enough results for me, but if you don't want to expend ANY effort at all, get a CR Spotless water filter for final rinses.

http://www.crspotless.com/

I tried it a few times and it works extremely well. Only downside is cost and having to wait for the water to dry, but the water does dry without spots for the most part.

Dug this thread up to say thanks. Finally purchased this product, and it makes drying so simple!

I use a shammy to dry mine, but not the same one I use on my glass. How does the water blade avoid the typical drying effort?

If you really hate drying a car, use a CR Spotless. The water de-ionized and will contain nothing that will ever leave spots on your car. I knew someone who had one and washed my truck in the full sun, did not dry it, just rinsed it and zero spots. Pretty amazing, although not cheap.

I pour water on the paint with an ewer - similar to the open hose method. It kinda helps on the hood and doors.

Would love the CR Spotless system and an air dryer. I hate how the water hides under the lights and door shuts. Gahhh!

The only thing I've seen that has me on the fence about purchasing it is the master blaster the 8HP blow dryer.

Any other options? Or do I just have to deal with it and dry it with microfiber like everyone else? Just curious.
I have this Master Blaster, I never use anything that touches the car anymore. It's not cheap but worth the investment. Mine also doubles as a vacuum.

I can attest to this. I purchase a griot garage portable water deionizer about a year ago and made drying with towels a non necessity. I'll wash and leave the car out to dry and no spots. But sometimes Ill bring out the waffle weave just to quicken things a bit. Yes not cheap. Saved up credit card points and used them to purchase. I bought a small dolly to help me roll it around which is a big help.

It just gets off so much, so fast, that there's not a lot left for the towels. It won't cut your time in half or less, but it is definitely quicker.

I squeegee the car (aka water blade), then hit it with a single large towel, then with a smaller one to finish it off. Then get into the door jambs and such.

I've never had an issue with the squeegee, but I do take care to keep it clean. And FWIW I'm pretty anal retentive about these things (i.e. I have never once taken the car through an automatic wash).

I don't have access to a garden hose at my apt, so I wet the car with regular tap water and a watering bucket/can (one that you would use to water plants). I then hand wash the car and this is the best part.. I rinse it off with about 5 gallons of distilled water with the same watering bucket, roll it out of the garage into the sun, and it dries really quick and leaves no water spots due to the distilled water. Works great and much easier than hand drying.
