The M1 looks and sounds sick. With its lighter weight and smaller size I can see it def competing with the m3. Too bad at 6'5 I won't fit, and if i did, i would look ridiculous.

I'm 6'5 and fit in the 1 series just fine. No one has ever said I look ridiculous, but maybe they're just being nice.

Sounds like options for BMW to charge a premium, similar to what Porsche does. A Cayman S can go as high as 100k. I bet the new M1 can be optioned to 70k.

The trim and color options are exactly what would suck me back in.

I love BMW as much as anyone else, but no one comes close to Porsche in terms of customization. Just try to customize one at the porsche website and you will see. Even with all these customization, a bottom of the line Boxter has 3x more options and thats only stuff on their website.

sad..

You have lost all respect for BMW. Your post are so cynical anymore. If this car is already going to be all this (Imola Red/dakar yellow M1, with CF roof..omfg), do you really think BMW has forgot about the darn engine?

Why so cynical?

Remember, it was rumored that it was going to be 400hp. Or more.. but that would worry M3 owners. But after people seeing what the 135i was capable, people started growing on the idea of a smaller BMW again. This is the epotimy of what almost everyone wanted. And it doesn't matter if it called M1, or M3.. we just want this motherfq'er..!

Advevo, the M1's engine will be refined n55.. with Valvetronic. That alone (just 10 years back), was more engine response than anything you could buy..! Never mind the Direct injection, bi-turbo, in-line 6?

It's^^ going to be worthy of the //M bars.

Are you serious? Not good...not good at all...why max torque @ 1250? Reving my 135I past 5500 rpm is useless....Anyways I'll wait and see but so far not impressed. Will they slap bigger brakes etc on this car...a true LSD.....Please guys I know that I can mod the car but I can still do it with my 1er......I don't know what to think about the new M1..if I didn't already have a 135I...I wouldN't wait a second and order an M1 but I feel that there is not much difference with my current car....CF roof is not a big deal for me..and all the other mods are easily done (Wavetrac LSD,suspension,JB3.. ETC)

I will make judgement when I see it, hear it, and test drive it, then wait 2 years before buying one. Let the early adopters work out the problem. Not going to fall for bmw marketing machine.

X2 I remember when I ordered my 135 in December of 2007....It was supposed to be the next 2002....well it's far from it...not that it's a bad car but it's far from a 2002
I'll just wait to see if this car is the new E30...btw..I'm not holding my breath

+1 I could easily make an $80,000 911 cost $150,000 at the end of options lol.

I somewhat agree. If we get a powerband similar to the 997 turbo it might not be so bad though. Sure it's not quite like the GT3 but it's hella exciting.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks this all sounds a bit lame? "The new BMW M1, now more customizable than a Scion Xb."

and your point is? I mean you can customize any car... in this case you get to do it from the factory. Have no idea why this would be lame.

I think his point was that it would be better to be hyping up the car for performance reasons rather than cosmetic ones, and I tend to agree. I wouldn't call it lame by any means though, this car sounds like it is catering more to the BMW 'enthusiast' that cares about the car and not just the badge, which is good IMO.

Is there any confirmation about the production of the M1 or it's still is a rumor? The pressure to cancel the order on the 135i is rising every day!

If it's not at Geneva, then it's probably not going to release in 2011, besides that this is all completely speculation (however fun).

Even if everyone at BMW WANTS this in 2011, the actual logistics could change the release in a heartbeat.

AND, if using this site as the Hype machine is your starting point for judging the marketing, you should probably LOOK AT THIS SITE some more. ALL the hype and speculation for the past two-three months that has been especially ramping up is about the fine tweaks of the drivetrain, suspension, LSD, etc., not these options. The customization side details started less than 24 hours ago. And don't even start with saying because people talked about CF roofs the customization talk has been from the start. It's on the M3, it's lighter, and guarantees we're not stuck with a power sunroof with no option. Sort of a big deal.

All forums are basically going to be fodder for half-informed opinions and all, but come on. Car enthusiasts should need to be around it anyway before actually judging. So how about either get excited or wait. There's really no ground to flame until the damn thing actually gets here.
