Should I service my car if I plan on trading in within the next 6 months?
Im expecting the service light to come on next month, would you go ahead and service ($600+?) if you expect to trade-in within 5-6 months?

Definately - it is one of the things I always look for when buying a car - ensuring that servicing has been by the book.
Builds confidence that you have looked after the car.

+1, it's one of the key things to look for in a car with log book servicing.
Although with CBS you could always reset it before selling it if you did not want to be ethical.

Yeh I would definitely, it can be a selling point for some buyers. I wouldn't replace any parts, just do the usual servicing though, oil change etc.

You might find the dealer argues "well it's due for a service" and reduce the trade price by the amount they calculate (dangerous territory that).
Also, if for any reason you don't trade when expected, you know you're car is serviced to standard and have the peace of mind from that. |

If I was trading it in to the dealer I wouldnt take it in for servicing, I also wouldnt trade it in to the dealer... if I were you I would at least attempt to throw a classified add in the paper for a few weeks or one of the autotrader magazines. You can get a great deal more for your trade if you sell it on your own for a small amount of extra effort on your part, when buying my 135i I asked the dealer how much for my 350z trade in, he offered 10000, I turned around and sold the same car in the paper for 17,000. Just my 2 cents but in my case it was a little more than 2 cents extra down on my new ride!
