Rear seats blocking a lot of bass to the cabin

Does anyone else have this problem? I love the way my sub sounds with one of the rear seats laid down, but if they are both up I don't hear that much bass. I'm only at 300 watts RMS to a 10W3, but it's plenty when the seat is down. Is there any way to help the bass get to the cabin. Taking out the rear deck speakers? I'll be running a 2.1 when I eventually get my components in, so I wouldn't need the rear speakers. Just curious to see what other people say about it. Do you really need 500+ watts RMS to hear it in the cabin?

what frequency do you have set for the filter? (just from a technical standpoint bass travels relatively far) truth be told though I know W3's arent to strong as is but you may have to change its location for better imaging

Low pass is around 110. The deep notes are very prominent when one of the rear seats is down. In fact, the sub might be a little more than I want in that configuration. The exhaust does drown it out at some times though. But when the seats are up, I only barely hear the kick of the bass. Almost zero of the lower notes get by. It doesn't sound right that you should have to put 500-1000 watts RMS in the trunk just to make it sound like a 300-500 watt RMS sub in a hatchback/open trunk setup. I dunno, maybe I just need to do it.

FWIW, I'm using the TPLSM3 enclosure.

Could you elaborate on this? Can I use the rear speaker cutouts for this(won't be using them)? Will simply removing them solve the problem, or do I need a port placed in each hole like a ported enclosure? I've never had to do this. Thanks.

It is a sealed enclosure. As I mentioned earlier, it is the TPLSM3 enclosure. Here's the link for more info.

Remove the rear seats and install a board with a couple of 15's in it and use the trunk as the enclosure. That was the hot setup way back when I was in high school.
