Fabricated.
Scott said technical specs would not be released for some period of time. I HIGHLY doubt BMW would add a dinan-level (at best) tune to the engine, and label it an "///M" engine.

You mean they weren't right when they said it'd be a 350hp NA engine? My guess is we'll see any engine delivering somewhere between 350 and 375, about halfway between the 135i and the M3.
Less would be disappointing, unless they managed to shave multiple hundred pounds off the car.

scott said the cut off was at 360, and we know the initial 340-345 was too little from rumours..
can't see it doesn't come with DCT because that will mean no US market. Having said that, don't think there's a DCT tested yet???

This sounds like more of a 135is car than a 1M. Suspension, chip, exhaust, fender flares, and bigger tires. We already have that.
No mention of the M Diff, CF Roof, aluminum (or composite) fenders, and DCT elimination make for a lackluster outing (and likely slow seller, if carried through to production).. |

I can't imagine that a DCT would not be available. BMW has spent a lot developing the technology, and marketing it as a performance option. There is already a DCT available in the 135i, I doubt there would not be one available for the M.

Frankly, power doesn't 'really' matter. It's about acceleration. This car needs to be doing 0-100 in approx 4.8seconds (or better) to be a real M car. If it only needs 335hp and they do something about weight then that would be fine.
Many of us have said this before, but it's my firm belief that if BMW don't make this as quick as an M3 in the straight AND the corners, then they haven't done it justice. Pure M? I don't think so... It will be a good car, but to save the glorified M3 from being upstaged, it will never be as good as it SHOULD be. And I would think that 'pure M' like Segler says in the video, does not compromise... |

If it is a more powerful N54, it just means they tuned the engine differently like many of the tunes we put in to push more power as we all know it is capable of this. Sounds like they just put their powerkit in and up'd the hp a bit or heck even are just "currently rating" the N54 engine as it was underrated.... totally disappointed..

This car is not going to be a "dog"....it isn't going to be a 135iS.... C&D is always about 4 weeks behind on things....and can't even get it right when they do produce an article... How in the hell are you supposed to know the car has 335 HP from sitting in the passenger seat? I have riden in an Lotus, and it felt like that thing had 500 HP because it seemed soooo fast....but you really have no idea until you drive it. SCOTT's post on page 1 puts it in perspective....I am happy to see new pictures of the car, but the meat of this article is pure shit....

All I need is someone from BMW give us DIRECT answers like:
1. The 1M will not only make 335hp; 2. Yes, DCT will be absolutely offered Right now all we have is some vague words from SCOTT... |

And, as you suggest, BMW will never let the lowly 135M outperform the M3. |

DCT is a must for me ! if it has somewhere near 350 and a DCT and the other stuff stated as far as suspension ect. I am a buyer. If not i am not. Hope it has carbon fiber roof at least as an option.

Let's wait until we get official information from BMW before getting all worried and dismissing the car. I am certain they won't disappoint. Here is my prediction:
1. 355 bhp (360 PS), tweaked version of N55 (S55?) 2. M-DCT will be available, if not at launch then later into production. 3. Carbon fiber roof since all recent M coupes (M3, M6) comes standard with it. However, I won't be surprised if they drop this due to cost issues. I can not wait to see this car. This will be a perfect replacement for E46 M3. |

I'm going to wait to see specs and track times before deciding on whether it would be a worthy replacement for the Z

If they make the extra power while still at 8psi by running larger turbos and/or upgrading the head/valve-train then I will be happy.
The tuners would be happy too. I'm glad they won't sell it with an auto, but it seems illogical to offer this vehicle without the DCT. |

I wonder how much money BMW paid that journalist to write all that hyperbole? Car and Driver are making this car sound like a 2009 135i with a few tricks here and there. It sounds like they are trying to help BMW sell more 135/128 before the 1M's official specs are released. With the 2011 135i in full swing with the new N55 and DCT do you guys really think BMW M division would step backward with a 6 speed only N54?

This 1M was always gonna be a strange addition to their lineup IMO. The performance margin between our cars and the M3 is already pretty narrow. Slap on a tune and some suspension bits and the margin becomes almost nonexistent. This car has never made sense to me so I'm not really disappointed.. I mean they weren't going to build a 1 series M variant that outperforms their 3 series M car..
