Comparison of Tyres

I found this on another thread here at 1addicts. I thought to share. What do you think about it?

By the way JeefBeef look at your tyres. They are 200AA which means they last longer right? But they only cost an extra $30 for it.

Yes, higher UTQG generally means higher treadlife, with all other factors kept the same. Not sure how reliable a scale it is, though.

Also there are some more reviews/data for some of the same tires here on TireTack:

I read their reviews but I can't help but get the feeling they are minimising the negatives.

Examples:
What We'd Improve: Improve steering response slightly
What We'd Improve: A modest reduction in tire impact noise

Anyway the rest of their review is quite good. I just wish I knew which one was going to give me most traction off the line. Right now I always spin in 1st and nearly in 2nd

That's probably true, they're in the business of selling tires - but it's also in their best interests to give good information to their customers so that they'll be satisfied and shop through them again later.

I think that most of the tires in this classification ("extreme performance" as per TireRack) all share pretty similar characteristics...You'll find that pretty much every one of those tires has people on this forum that use them and are happy with them. Probably comes down to differences in price and what your past experiences are with the various manufacturers.

What are you currently using now? I'm on my stock RFTs but am switching those out here shortly (personally am leaning towards Dunlop Star Specs).

Update: Ended up going with the Yoko AD08's - the guy I spoke to at Discount Tire said that TireRack has exclusive rights to sell the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs tire so once I included shipping / install / warranty and all that, the Yokohamas came out on top. I'll let you know how they work next week!

AD08s are great, they have excellent dry straight line acceleration, not too bad in the wet either.

the Z1's are great, i've had them on for about 2 months, wet grip is really good, dry is amazing too once they're warm.

The Z1s turned out cheapest for me from tirerack. Bloody ridiculous dry grip on the track. Tears off your face.

I HOPE they last the longest!
