bfi, logically, the compliance indicates that when a car is bought late in the year eg late 2008 will be an 09 model, and will have different features like the new iDrive for example. which in theory or what the dealer would usually lead you to believe that it should have hold at least that bit more of value
but from what i know and experience the year of the car will usually determine the value, at least that's what i think the dealer would say to get the price down lower during trade in? (i dunno just my thoughts) Private sales would a better option i believe..

Redbook valuations are based on build date NOT compliance date. This is because the valuation relates to the features of the car and this can change from one model year to another ... as per the iDrive spec mentioned already.
