Looking to go to 17s. Need help with wheels *UPDATE* OZ Alleggerita Potenza RE-11
So I've done lots and lots of searching around over the last couple of days but still haven't come to a good enough conclusion to oder some new 17s for my 1er yet.
Everyone seems pretty nice on this forum so I figured you guys could help me out. I am having trouble undestanding the offsets for a staggered setup. I currently have the bmw performance suspension and stock wheels/tires with the RFTs. My rears are rolled as the previous owner ran 255 track tires. I want to do a staggered setup on 17s. Potenze RE-11s 235/45R17 255/40R17 On: O.Z. Alleggerita HLT 17x8 +40mm 17x8.5 +40mm Will this combo work/does it make sense? Thanks in advance for the help I am looking to buy something before next week. ***UPDATE*** Pics below Last edited by ddt713; 07-09-2010 at 04:22 PM.. |

Might be close to the arches (fenders) but will depend on suspension height
For info I ran e36 M3 staggered sunflower alloys with 225/45x17 fr and 245/40x17 rear no problem on my 123d coupe m-sport setup. ps these wheels are 7.5" fr 8.5" r on ET41 offset. |

Wheel and tire fitment is not my specialty by any means, but I do have a few comments about that set up. I run 17x8 et40 in the front currently, and I do not rub with 225/45 tires on. I am also on the performance suspension. One major difference, is that I run about -2.0* camber in the front which helps tuck the wheel better into the fender. I haven't noticed any rubbing, but given the wider tire, this could be very close to rubbing. In the rear I have 17x8.5 et44 on 255/40 Hankook Tires. I rubbed on this set-up and had to roll my fenders just slightly to fit. Keep in mind you will be pushed 4 mm out farther from mine, which is 12 mm farther than stock. This would be cutting it very close, and based on my set-up above, I would say this will definitely rub without modification.
Hope that helps! Tim

Check the last page of the fitment thread post #161 http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=216413&page=8
Your suggested setup should clear, and a little camber up front would give you some extra room. You would def fit a 225/45 245/40 as another option |

I don't know about fit but if you went to a 255/45 rear tire, your speedometer would be less than a mph off - versus about 3 mph with a 255/40.

Just got in the wheels. I went with:
front: 225/45r17 on 17x8 OZ Alleggerita Anthracite +40mm rear: 255/40r17 on 17x8.5 OZ Alleggerita Anthracite +40mm Here are pics of the stockers New wheels: Mounted: After the install I went for a test drive and Video taped the wheels but I didn't notice that my camera moved on me so the video isn't right yet. I will post a video of it in like an hour. There was no rub at all in the front, and very minimal rub in the rear. My rear fenders are rolled and I had no cutting into the tires. Also My stock wheels are now for sale they are the 18s with potenzas, here are the pics of them. email me if your interested snoboard1500@mac.com I'm still too new on the forum to use the PM system. will ship here are pics |

Ok great though everyone gets their new mods and says their car is faster what does that mean though? Is it true? I wanted to test out if it really made a difference so I went to the dragstip. On the stock 18's at the dragstip I ran a 13.3 @ 102mph with a 1.94 60ft. On the new tires I didn't want to launch the car I wanted the wheels to tires to set properly so I didn't launch and I ran a 13.8 @ 108 with a 2.4 60ft. I improved my 1/4 trap speed 6 mph. I think that is a huge improvement for just getting new wheels and I am extremely happy all around. I would recommend this to anyone. Also the Potenza RE-11s are the best tires ever made. I took an on ramp a little sideways at 65mph and had complete control. I didn't even know I was sideways till it was time to straighten out. I couldn't be happier with my choice. |

That video was a great way to see the the tires in action and observe if there is rubbing! I love the video! I agree with the things you observed, and the lightweight 17's make a big difference in suspension performance and also comfort over bad roads. Glad to see you ended up with minimal rubbing on the set-up. It looks great!
