Window issue

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen... I searched and didn't find my exact issue.

When I go to close both windows, the passenger one will go up a few inches, then roll back down almost the whole way. Doesn't do this every time but probably 8/10 times.

I've reset the windows by holding the button in the up and down position, but it didn't make any difference.

I'm going to be out of warranty before I can get it looked at, does this sound like a faulty regulator or an issue with the anti-trap stuff?

thanks for any ideas.

May just want to clean and lube your runchannels with silicone spray. This is usually caused by too much drag going up. Do you have tint? That will make it worse.

I had a very similar issue on my 2009 135i. Then one day the passenger window wouldn't go up - it just stayed down. Like you... I had JUST gone out of warranty. The dealer was cool and fixed the problem no charge. I don't recall if it was the regulator or motor. I'm sure I have the service document at home which will say.

This is usually indicative of a regulator issue. Mine does the same thing, but nearly as often as yours.

Got a quick update - I dripped some 303 rubber & vinyl protectant into the tracks on the back edge of the window and rolled it up and down a few times. The problem hasn't come back so far (it's been a few weeks).

It is to do with regulators but it is not failure.

If window reset didnt work, then Lubricant is the best solution.

This worked for me...

Here's the procedure I followed: (copied from a previous thread)
Initialization comprises:
• Erasure of initialization
• Reinitialization

An initialization must be performed:
• In the event of malfunctions, e.g. no one-touch control function, no opening or if available no comfort function is possible
• After the power window drive has been replaced
• After work is carried out on the power window mechanism
• After a power supply interruption, e.g. disconnection of the battery or disconnection of the power supply to the door
• After the door window glass has been removed and installed or replaced
• After adjustment work on the door window glass
• After adjustment work on the convertible top
• After replacement of seals

Erasure of initialization:
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate power window switch in "Open" position four times within 10 seconds

This erases initialization of the power window, anti-trapping protection and toll function are inactive.
Check whether one-touch control (toll) function is inactive, otherwise repeat procedure.

Reinitialization:
Avoid a break between the two steps!
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer

If it's well lubricated, and has been sucessfully initilized with the problem still occurring... It will need a new window motor. I've seen this several times on 1ers..

I had this issue as well. It was the window regulator. It was repaired under warranty, fortunately.

Almost always is. Sedans get it more as the window regulators fail from not being used regularly. Coupes generally get it on the passenger side as the driver's side gets frequent exercise by the driver opening and closing the door.

I had my passenger window motor replaced for this exact problem. Dealer tried resetting window first, which did not work.

Car was only 2 yrs old then with 23,000km.

Literally every car I've owned has done this. Never had any idea what caused it. Never had a window failure, though.

I've replaced both window regulators - first the driver's side at 50K miles, then the passenger side at 75K. I thought it was worse in the convertibles because of the window having to sneak in and out of the weather strip every time the door is opened or closed.

The windows in the coupe do that too.
