Wavetrac LSD GroupBuy! (135/335)

UPDATE

Well the response has been overwhelming, but the bad news is we don't have a unlimited supply in this batch so we have to set a CAP on this and we are FAST approaching it. Please get your deposits in to ensure a spot as we are almost into an overflow situation. Just confirmed the stock amounts so this is the FINAL allotment list.

Also please CONFIRM your Diff type based on your VIN, especially if you are in the fuzzy 03/07 build date. It is everybody's responsibility to ensure they have the Diff they think they have. Also please add to the thread or email me whether you need the install kit and if you will be doing the CORE exchange.

I am happy to announce I managed to get a Group Buy for the Wavetrac LSD together for you guys! It has taken about 3-weeks to get a deal together I felt was a good value for you guys.

Early 335i (up to 3/2007) came with a bolted rear differential. This made it possible to just swap the rear differential to an aftermarket LSD. However, starting 3/2007, BMW started welding the ring gears in the factory rear differential to the differential carrier. This made it very difficult and expensive to change differentials. Not anymore. Wavetrac is now offering a service to modify your welded factory differential to work with their LSDs. The welded ring gear in welded factory differential is CNC machined and seperated. Once seperated, the ring gear is CNC machined and modified to accept the Wavetrac LSD. This also includes installation & reshiming of the LSD into the differential housing.

Check the chart below to see if you need the installation kit.

Model Installation Kit (Installation Kit Required)

1) MT cars up to March 2007 have bolted DIFS and ONLY need the LSD
2) MT cars after March 2007 have welded DIFS and need to send in their DIF to be machined (The cost of this is 595.00) Core exchange is available for MT CARS
3) AT cars up to mid-2099 have bolted DIFS and ONLY need the LSD
4) I have arranged for a shop in Souther California to do the work for you local Cali guys. They charge 240.00 to swap a COMPLETE pumpkin and 500.00 if you are bolted and need the LSD installed. They have one or two cores so there is no core charge if you go that route.

135i with manual tranmission (all) Yes
135i with automatic transmission (all) Yes

ZERO DOWNTIME OPTION and its technically FREE

The way it works is you get charged an 800.00 dollar core charge, which is 100% refundable and wavetrac sends you a fully installed LSD/DIF, which you swap and send your stock one back and get your 800.00 back.

The stock rear differential in both the 135i and 335i is an open differential from the factory. This means you can only put power to the ground on 1 wheel. With an aftermarket rear differential like the Wavetrac, you can now put power down to both wheels! During a turn, the weight of the car is transfered to the wheels on the outside of the turn. With the weight transfered to the outside, the inside wheel will now have less traction. In an open differential, power is sent to the wheel that has the least amount of traction. This means that if you applied power in mid turn, power would be sent to the inside wheel and thus making it spin and lose traction. With the Wavetrac Limiited Slip Differential (LSD), power is sent equally to both drive wheels giving you the ability to apply power in mid turn. This equates to better traction and thus faster exit speeds out of the corner. As any racer will tell you, exit speed will make a big difference in your lap times. The Wavetrac LSD is what we use on our Time Attack 135i.

Whether you track your car or not, upgrading to the Wavetrac LSD will completely change the dynamic of the car under power. You'll be suprised how much more traction you have, even driving on the street!

So how does it work if ordered with the install kit, do we get everything needed to install or do we have to send our diff away to get it modified by the guys at Wavetrac?

The install kit is basically parts and labor for Wavetrac to install the LSD in your welded housing for you. There is another option..

ZERO DOWNTIME OPTION and its technically FREE

Yes it can be done for sure.. You just get the LSD through us and have them install. Probably can even pick it up there if you wanted. Would have to check with them on install costs.

So let me get this straight....the price is $992.75 for manual and steptronic cars??
I thought even the '08s had a welded diff and this couldn't be done so cheaply.
If i'm wrong, put me on the list and I'll find someone to do my install.

The 992 is for the LSD. Install is obviously your responsibility. If you have a welded dif then wavetrac can machine and install the LSD for you (install kit) for 595.00. If yiu have a shop that can do the work for you then all you need is the 992.75 LSD.

If you are a mt with a welded dif then your cost is as follows.

992 for the LSD
595 for the install kit (labor to machine the dif)
800 core charge (refundable)

At the end of the day you are out 1590 plus shipping plus labor. I would budget 2k after all is said and done.

I am about to answer all the PMs from people but here is an update.

Hope that helps with the question. I will begin updating the list today and tomorrow and get this rolling.
