White foam under oil fillet cap
Hi all,
I have white/ yellow slush under my oil filler cap again along with a little bit of coolant loss and I'm now wandering since last time, (about 6 month ago) I had to replace both oil filter housing gaskets, if there are any possibilities for coolant entering the combustion chamber other than the head gasket? Normal
I've seen that plenty of times on straight six BMW's, it also depends on amount of coolant loss Last week I had to add approximately 1 L of coolant because it had not been filled in a year for a client Check coolant regularly |

How long are your drives and how often does your engine hit a high (i.e. 240 or so) operating temp?
Having a lot of short drives can put that stuff under the oil fill cap making you think you have a bigger problem. Maybe you DO have a bigger problem, but be sure that's not all it is. |

My normal commutes are pretty short and I barely get the temperature over 80C / 175F but I had to refill the coolant from minimum yesterday and I just topped it up 2 weeks ago. It just got quite a bit colder here in Alberta, Canada but I didn't have any problems last year in the winter.
I have a 100K miles on the clock now and thought by the way the oil filter housing gaskets looked like, that there might be some other rubber gaskets that could get "eated" by the coolant. I'll try to take detours from now on to ensure i get her up to a proper temperature and if it's not getting better in a few days I'll get an cylinder leakdown test done |
