Broken locking wheel nut
Hello,
This will be my first post.My name is Serkan.I am from Turkey and I have a white F20 1.16.It is really nice to be a part of this community. Today, I changed my winter tires with my summer tires.During disassembling, removal tool(key) for locking nut was deformed. So, the repairman from the tire shop hit the nut with a hammer and a straight tool(wrench) like 10 times to be able to open it with the deformed key. So,I asked him whether this could deform something on the area where wheel is emplace or not.He said that it was common on F20 and F30 series and there would be no problem. Do you think I should go to the service to get my car checked ? ( for wheel balancing, wheel alignment or other parts ) * It is my first BMW and this situation has never happened to me before. Thanks a lot |

The threads on the rotor/hub could suffer damage, but if the replacement wheel bolt went in smoothly, then the threads are likely fine. If he was hammering it with a huge amount of force, the wheel bearing could suffer damage... but unlikely.
For wheel locks, I always install them last and remove them first. Helps prevent excessive forces on the key and matched surface. |
