Turbos not Activating 1M

Hi all:

Yesterday I was on my way home. As I always do, close to my house there is a nice road where I let the fury go. On my the shift to 2nd gear I heard a thump in the engine bay. After that started the loss of power. No turbo engagement.

The strange thing is that there are no codes, nor CEL lights on etc etc.

The car runs normal at 1/8 throttle. As soon as I go over that, the engine bogs and doesn't generate any power.

Anyone has an idea of what could be wrong?

Thanks,

Everett

Can we post a picture (complete with arrow) pointing to where the charge pipe blow off happens so the rest of us can easily spot it and rectify it.

There were some great pics in an older thread. I searched, found the thread, but the pics are gone.

I took the car to BMW service. Told them about the Chargepipe.

I was reading on other forums that the problem with the Chargepipe occurs with high boost engines. Mine is 100% bone stock. Weird ah?

Nope. Happens frequently with entirely stock motors.

I think my first engine mod will be a ER charge pipe, no need to wait that happen. Did you try this one or what do you use?

Yes, I have the ER piece.

I think that there are a couple of others, including cp-e, that also use the factory C-clamp to fasten the pipe to the throttle body.

I would think the sensor on the intake manifold would throw a code of there was 0% pressure in the intake track. I can't see it possible to not notice a cp coming off since all the pressure would be exposed you would also be able to hear your turbos very distinctively since there not enclosed. If you have been driving around w/o any way of filtered air going into your engine I would say you have better things to worry about other then not being able to "let your fury out" I also have a very hard time believe 8 lbs of pressure could do that but then again what do I know right?

Neil - my AA cp uses the factory c clamp as well, I would think all AM cp's would as they would all have to mate w the throttle body.

Oh and if was the cp that popped off I would really look into getting a good occ which could have prevented some unnessecary lube-age

Often, the control pipe pops off -- or tears -- but remains pressed against the throttle body so car drives fine when not boosting.

Quite a few of the charge pipes use a silicone coupler that attaches to the throttle body and, in turn, the charge pipe with hose clamps.

Ok, i think its time to get a charge pipe so my HPDE weekend does not get ruined. So who sells them for the 1M? Any brand OK? Should i replace the BOV also?

Common BMW, grow a pair and solve this! Don't leave this up to us to forever loose time on visiting the dealerships / DIY's.

Do the right thing for you customers!?

It happened to mine; totally stock. Made a big bang! I'm surprised that it didn't throw a single warning light on the car.

Mine poppped apart yesterday--quite a loud noise follwed by lack of boost. I'm looking at the ER and some other brands as a replacement. I don't think there is any point even asking the dealership to replace it with another plastic factory part. Seems like enough owners are having this issue that it should be considered for a factory redesign and recall (although I'm certainly not going to wait for that to happen).
