1M fair price?

I know this is a highly debated subject at the moment... but what is a decent price to pay for a 20-30K mile 1M... preferably orange

Options aren't very relevant it looks like when browsing the classifieds.

IMO---having recently shopped one extensively and eventually bought one with 35k miles on it------

if you buy a 20k-30k one with a well documented (and clean) history and apparently well maintained I think between $56-58k is right for that mileage. probably a bit less than that if a private seller.

I can't stress the history and prior maintenence enough though....it makes a big difference IMO.

I had the full and complete history of my car given to me and it was great to see any issues there were in transparent form.

I agree, options are not that relevant on the 1M. Condition and mileage are more important.

You are paying collector car prices on the 1M nowadays and 30K miles is barely in the range "collector" car mileage. Damage also, no matter how well repaired takes a big hit when asking "collector car prices in my opinion. Those that have pristine, low mileage, fully documented maintenance can expect collector prices. They should go down from there.

My opinion is not what bluebook or NADA says or based on crazy asking prices. I find it weird that cars are not selling at 55K-60K yet now they are asking 70-75K. There might be one that sells for that much who knows? Recently someone bought a 6K orange unit for 60K that was used in filming a Mark Wahlberg movie.

This is my rough opinion on what a fair price is for a 1M is today. I know it doesn't jive with what you see online but after balancing what is out there, warranty, maintenance, M2 on the horizon, M3s/M4s, etc. this is what I came up with.

0-9K miles $54-58K
10-15K miles - $50-54K.
16-25K miles - $49K-52K
26-35K miles - 45k-48K
36-45K miles - 40k-44K
46-50K miles 39K-40K

Obviously the higher mileage will be the lower range and vice versa!

Salvage 1M - Depends too much on who fixed it and damage to go there but 50K for salvage seems way to steep. I'm thinking 30-35K cash for salvage.

maaaan you wish!!!

if those prices happen i will be buying a 2nd 1M! but i'm fairly sure they won't happen! haha. Lots of vultures waiting to buy one around the $40-$48k range.
The M3/M4 has not impacted 1M prices. The M2 might impact them...or may not......curious to see that happens...but don't really care either way as i'm not selling anyways.

i definitely agree that $50k is way too much for a salvaged car. WTF! I guess they are preying on that certain person who wants to build a 'track car'?

Oh, about $25K. I'll help take it off your hands.

You must be doing quite a commute in the Bay Area!

I think you should pay me to take it off your hands. Damn someone with more miles than my car (50,400). And I'm still havin' fun with it:

Another data point. I just bought an "as-new" 2011, with all options and 1300 miles on the clock, in Portland, OR. Paid $65K, original sticker $55K.

Sorry, Matt -- I got you beat (now pushing 51,000)!

Installed a 4-pt roll bar last week and just ordered some AP Racing brakes.

Yeah, I'm still having way too much fun

so glad you guys are putting the miles on!!!! good to have company!

hey did any of you guys buy an extended warranty or just winging it?

my car has almost 42k miles now (bought it with 35k just 3 months ago) and am currently debating what to do. As part of my personal ethos i almost NEVER buy 'extended warranty' type deals for anything i ever buy....but i've never owned an M car before so not sure if i should do anything different this time.

The only thing that's really really different on this car that would anticipate any sort of repair may be the locking diff, otherwise the repairs should be identical any other 135i.

the suspension is totally different from the 135...as well as the entire braking system and the front and rear axles and subframe components are from the E9X M3. it's a very different car underneath. In terms of electronics i think the M-button throttle setting and traction control systems are different. The steering rack is also totally different (from the M3). unfortunately repairs (and maintenance) for those things are quite pricey!

But otherwise i agree with you about the rest of the interior electronics, etc

Without beating a dead horse... when do those items ever go bad? If you beat your car; its a different story but all in all, nothing to worry about.

Obviously the higher mileage will be the lower range and vice versa!

Salvage 1M - Depends too much on who fixed it and damage to go there but 50K for salvage seems way to steep. I'm thinking 30-35K cash for salvage.
I think you're right on mark except for the cars with less than 2k miles where a collector is willing to pay $60-$70K. Obviously, you've been monitoring all the car sites because the fact is the cars with asking prices >$55K aren't moving right now.

I would gladly pay $45k right now for the type of car described above but asking prices are way north of that right now... Carmax wanted $58k for one w 21k miles and wouldnt budge a dollar... I offered 53k.

But then again, carmax is delusional.

Is it really complicated to import a car from Canada for you guys? http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/a/BMW/1+Se...O&orup=2_15_10

http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/a/BMW/1+Se...O&orup=3_15_10
If you look at the exchange rate it might be better for you to import it from Canada.

The duties would probably make it not worth it. Exchange rate is favorable but not favorable enough... then you need to switch the cluster to mph and make sure all of the lights meet US standards.

Depends on who you ask.

People waiting in the wings to buy a 1M: "IMHO nobody [read-"me"] is willing to pay more than $10k for anything that is not a pristine barely-driven 1M that came from the factory painted Java Green and also happened to fall in the small batch produced with the 'free navigation' option. If it has above 500 miles it should just be given away free."

People who own a 1M: "I would only trade my daily-driven 50k mile rock-chipped Cobb-tuned 1M for a perfectly running bone stock Ferrari F40 LM... or one of the Le Mans winning Ford GT40s in Gulf Livery. Otherwise get off my lawn!"
