Time:8:00am - 8:00pm Location:North Georgia Mountains & Beyond Description We will meet at Starbucks, exit 13 off GA 400, 8:00 AM and depart by 9:00 AM. From there we'll caravan through North Georgia and into N Carolina. Our focus destination for the day is Deals Gap, AKA the Dragons Tail. For the unfamiler The Dragon has 318 curves in 11 miles. An experience at any speed. We will stay there till 3:00 or 4:00 PM then caravan back to Atlanta. Various stops for food and fuel are planned during the day. Be sure and google up the 3 photographers that sell pictures of you on the Tail of the Dragon after your trip. It takes them a few days to get the pictures posted. I bought a few, including the one to the left. I hope you don't get stuck behind harleys like we did the first pass. I understood why they go so slow later when one of the went off the road. Not a good place for that.

This is gonna be an awesome fun day. From what I'm told,
we should hav a Lotus group hangin with us in the morning. Dunno about the rest of the day. It's been a long, cold, wet winter & we all need a fun driving day. Weather is lookin like rain Fri & Sun but not on our motoring day. Can't wait! Actually the organizer is my buddy Jack who'll be drivin th black on black (stinkin fast) MINI.

Friday, I'm calling my buddy Ben who manages the crossroads. He'll have all the poop. There are plenty of amazing roads & sights in the area. 2 summers ago when the THP showed up, I blew up & down the Dragon only once the whole time I was there...the rest of the time I enjoyed 28, Yellow Creek Rd., Cherohalla Skyway & roads around Franklin. The Gap is supposed to reopen this weekend & I hear the skyway is an ice sheet right now. BUT... I WILL CHECK AND REPOST WHEN I KNOW. Last year about this time I did a day trip to Cherohalla. It was clear as could be till we met solid ice 3 miles from the top. The rest of the day was fabulous!!!

You need to be sure and stop at the top. There is pretty obvious pull over place. On one side you have the mountain vistas and on the other side you have a lake. Great place to take a few photos.
If you take any of the scenic roads getting there, some are along creeks/small streams. We went past the first waterfall before I started to stop for photos. You can get a free map of the scenic roads in the area by googling "tail of the dragon" and finding the right website. You can just download the pdf for nothing. The scenic roads are slower, however, with turns you need to be down around 25 mph for. The Tail of the Dragon has a little bit of shoulder and some pull off spots. The other roads my son and I took often had guard rails hard up against the road - not a place to be pushing it. Jim
