Pedal response

When I press the pedal down, about 3/4 of the way to the floor, I get a boost in power for passing. When I press it all the way to the floor I get an added boost. Is this where the Turbo kicks in?

No, that's called giving it more gas. >.> Turbo's kick in at full boost around 1500-2000 RPMs.

I think I know what you are talking about. Is it that final 'click' when the pedal goes down?

There is no particular moment when the turbos "kick in". They are always rotating as long as the engine is running and producing a slight positive pressure between the turbo and throttle body (or the back of the intake valves for a valvetronic engine).

What that final 'click' does is allow for maximum acceleration at any given time.

In an automated gear box, either steptronic or DCT, it will kick down to the gear to the lowest possible for that given speed to give you maximum acceleration. This will happen even if you are in manual mode.

Normally if you're in an automated mode, D or DS, it will drop down gears to accelerate faster as your press the pedal down further but it keeps things civilised. If you're in manual, it won't drop down unless you manually do it or unless you hit the 'click'.

Thanks all for your input. I think I understand it a little more than before. Have a great day.

Keep in mind the compressed air concept of your N55 motor: As you increase your RPMs (thus increasing exhaust flow) you will be using cintrifugul force to compress the air that's preparing to enter your motor for combustion. You will build boost as you open the throttle.

135 FOR THE WIN. High torque for down low and a smoothe and nasty finish at full boost n beyond. Beast mode.

Also remember that there are different boost targets based on throttle position and RPM, unless the fueling control loop is very different than the last turbo car i owned. Based on throttle position and current RPM, there were fueling and boost tables that were the targets for that specific spot.
