I did not say the Step was identical to an F1 tranny..that is absurd. I was merely pointing out this is the direction technology is moving in. F1 technology trickles down. Look at the SMG on the E46 M3. Look at the the Ferrari F430 transmission, this is as close to an F1 as it gets. Did I say an E90 has an F1 tranny? NOPE. Just pointing out that stomping on a clutch and rowing a lever is NOT the direction that top level race cars are moving in, and hence neither is the trickle down technology finding its way into street cars. It does not make one less of a driver for embracing this technology rather than rejecting it and bashing it like those MT snobs who are stuck in the past. Out with the old in with the new.

Most racing series still have cars with a "traditional" manual transmission with a clutch. F1 being the top level series in terms of technology obviously went to the most advanced transmission possible. I'd love to be able to get a transmission like that in a BMW, but I figured before I went there I should really learn how to drive an actual manual. Along the same lines as having to learn all of that stuff in engineering school that I now have a computer do for me.

FYI I was only being a smart ass... Didn't mean anything by it..

Also, lets not start another Manual vs. Auto thread.. there are just WAY too many here (and on any car site).

VW and Audi use it in some of their cars, functions very smoothly and quickly when using the paddles and can double as an automatic which SMG type systems have never been great at. Supposedly BMW is creating a new system that may be called ZSG based off the ideas of DSG.

haha im gonna have to disagree with that. our other car is a '06 e350, and i think the bmw pwns the benzes...

we have premium sound in both as well, the only way i can describe it is that the benz has clearer low volume sound, while the bmw can get louder, with stronger bass.

quite honestly, i will continue to buy the premium bmw sound, but never again buy the benz's

I owned a VW Golf diesel with the DSG gearbox before getting the 330d. I bought it based on the glowing reports I had read, but I have to say that I was disappointed: it is not the perfect solution many claim and I sold the car after just 7 months. I find the Step in the e90 far smoother and more 'intelligent'.

Yeah? and the steptronic:manual selling ratio in dealers around my town is 9:1 according to these sale rep. So you're telling me that 90% of people buying e90 wasted their money? I'm just looking at the data to talk, not my feeling.

Are you kidding? I just drove to Kirkwood to go skiing on Monday. If I didn't have AWD, I would need to put on chains

If BMW gives me an option that I can use to make my stereo sound better (equalizer on the L7 setup) you should use it and not gripe that you have to use the equalizer to make it sound good. it's a car not a concert hall.
I'm comparing with a late 2000 car.

After equalisation the sound quality is still sub-standard – congested and compressed.

I am entitled to grip when I've paid over £800 for this factory option which is two levels above the base audio.

I’m not expecting concert hall sound but to simply match an early E46 saloon with HK. BMW have set the standard here and they are not matching their own earlier product.

This is the thread to help others avoid a costly mistake. If anyone is considering Logic 7 then make sure you listen and compare cars in your dealership as you may not consider it value for money.

It's really interesting you are so dissapointed with your Logic 7. I have the Hifi Loudspeaker system in my car and I'm very happy with it. I've compared it to "pre-facelift" harman/kardon and the facelifted one.

The sound that comes out of the system is clear at all volume levels, and it is generally a good system. It could use more low range bass, but apart from that I am extremely happy with the sound quality and I think it's a bargin for the +-R5000 (~GBP500) I paid for it!

Depends on your circumstances - some options that are vital to everyday use for some, is completely useless to others...

Some say PDC was useless because the car is small... they have no idea how handy it can be in places like London - particularly to alert you of stupid pedestrians who seem to think reversing cars are invisible or think it's a good idea to walk behind your car as you line up to parralel park - having used it on E46 for years, I doubt I could survive parking around here without it

Other say extra lights are useful, but for me, it's pointless because majority of streets are well lit...

I agree with Broken1 about steptronic, and think that active steering and active cruise control are unnecessary

Why dont we just post what options we got with our cars, and then we can just assume that all other options are worthless to that person since they didnt get them.

I love all the options I have. iDrive being my favorite.
I still wish I had CA, every time I walk up to the car with stuff in my hands I swear and think of you guys.

I'm going to sit out on the "stupid comments" today.
