Key FOB battery dead

Okay, i pulled out my spare key and tried it out the other day. Battery seemed to be dead, buttons dont work.

I DO NOT HAVE CA, AND MY BATTERY DOES NOT SEEM TO BE REMOVABLE OR CHANGEABLE.

The car will start with the key fob, the the dash brings up a sign showing a key with a line through it (manual says that means i have removed the CA key from the car, which is not possible).

Ive been driving around with this key FOB trying to recharge the battery, but it doesnt seem to work. Buttons still dont work.

Thoughts?

You can change the battey in the key fob if it dead. Unless its different from those with CA. I have CA so it may no be the same for you, but if you pull the key out of the fob, there is a slot where you can pry open the battery compartment.

Rocketpop, on the NON CA key fobs, the key fob is sealed and the battery is NOT changable. Its rechargable.

thats gonna cost some $$. that's why my CA told me to cycle the keys, because if they die you need to buy another at a couple hundred bucks.

Either you got a bad battery in the fob, which should be replaced under warranty, or the car has an issue and is no longer charging the fob. Does the other key work?

CA is Comfort Access. CA keys do not have a rechargeable battery, regular keys do.

Thats BS(as in unfair, not your answer). Its not really his fault that the battery died. they should replace it under warranty IMO.

I'm sure they will, why do you assume they won't? The battery shouldn't die in less than a year no matter what. Also, the one that is more at risk is the key that is never being used.

the OP stated he pulled out his spare and it's dead, not the one he was using daily.

i'm just saying what my dealer told my on the past 2 cars, to make sure i rotate the keys so one doesn't die, which will happen if it sits for too long. he said this isn't covered and i'd have to shell out for a new one. hopefully OP has better luck, or just tells them it's his daily that died and it must be defective....
