E87 130i - roll call

Hi guys, I am new to the forum, and a relatively new owner (just a touch over 4 months) of a Sapphire Black E87 130i (6MT), bought from BMW Melbourne.

Hoping to get in touch with other owners as I am itching to gather knowledge on other's experiences with modifications (namely intake, exhaust, to start) as well as maintenance watch outs.

If you're an owner of a 130i, feel free to sing out here, roll call style! I'm quietly hoping this thread isn't going to be too much of a fail!

-Charles

Yep, here too.

From what I've read there's not really that much more you can squeeze out of the N52 with intakes or exhausts. Unless you have money to burn just spend your cash on tyres and brakes.

Welcome!

This thread is a good read:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=617391

As Mechz said I don't think there's many performance mods worth upgrading (bang for buck wise) for the N52.

Enjoy the car!!

Welcome!

Another 130i joining the group..

As for mods for the hatch, not really much you can do unfortunately or fortunately whichever way you looked at it.

Exhaust - BMWP (Awesome noise and no drone )

Intake - BMWP kit comes with KN drop in filter ( Awesome Looks, but Pricy, but can just get a direct drop in KN pod, ALL LEGAL )

Visit www.bmrautowerkes.com.au - for the best price on BMWP parts.

No longer have one but got one in 2005 when they were announced, always enjoyed it (my wife's car). Great bits of kit.

yay, a fellow BSM 130i

just do handling/suspension/tyre mods, or you'll spend thousands for not much sadly .. that is unless you want the intake/exhaust for noise and bling more than performance

1 year and 40,000km in, no worries, just service it well with good parts, and enjoy

Nice to hear from you all.

Occasionally, I see a 130i here and there, and I'm keen to pull up next to them and wave. I reckon once a week, I spot one randomly, and there's one near the office car park that I see often. Hopefully this will help me meet others in this little sub-community.

JHS130, I'll PM you later in the day. Keen to tap into the Facebook page.

Knightelf, thanks for the link. I'll be reading it tonight.

Mechz, I've had a think about things, and I reckon you may be right. Will PM you later, to discuss.

Welcome mate! Especially you are from Melbourne.

BMWP exhaust is quite bang for buck if you want a bit of extra noise.
Like the others have said, handling mods will be most rewarding. And that is exactly what I have done. Get coilovers and LSD if like fun and go to track.

As for maintenance, depending on how many Ks the car has done, it is just mainly engine oil & filter, brakes and plugs. On top of that, you may want to do gearbox and diff oil. It is very easy to do it yourself on the 130i.

cheers
Ken

Agreed about the weather... almost on par with what we get back in Sydney

I'm definitely up for a cruise!

Are the laws different in Vic? In NSW a P plater can have any car as long as it's not a V8 or FI. That means a P plater could have a 125I or 130i, an R32 or even a new Lotus V6 Exige S

In a wholly original move, I'll put my hand up as having a BSM 130i in Melbourne too.

If it was 4 months ago, you might have purchased the 130i I was thinking about getting at BMW Melbourne - sun roof and cream interior? I ended up getting one a couple of months later in Sydney and driving it down which was a nice little getting to know you.

I'm not sure I've actually seen another black one, despite how many posts there are here. I do regularly see a silver one zipping up and down Hoddle st in the mornings though.

Internev, that's the one I bought! :-) Small world.

It wasn't perfect, but did have potential. A little pressing and they agreed to get the dents in the rear bumper fixed, the scratches under the front bumper fixed, bluetooth fixed, gear knob and driver chair re-furbed, and I had a few claims under the statutory warranty (got the front rotors done for free that way).

I see a blue one semi-regularly, one with the BMWP shifter. I see it around South/Port Melbourne/South wharf.

Questions for all of us:

Anyone have any experience in changing the rear windscreen wiper squirter (from single to dual outlet - if that makes sense)?

Usually from cold, intermittently I get a bit of a clunky feel [not crunchy] when moving up into second gear, and sometimes third. Yes, I do have the clutch in all the way. It only happens occasionally, maybe one in every 15 rides. Every other shift up or down feels smooth and properly notchy. I thought it was a synchro at first, because it would seem to be OK, so long as I let the revs die off before shifting up. But, it's not always the case. I've contacted BMW Melbourne twice about it now and each time they didn't really care too much about it. Perhaps it was because I was insistant I get a new gear box (me exaggerating). I am not really too worried about it - I will visit a specialist BM Autowerks Oakleigh, and get another opinion. If they suggest that it's an issue, I'll claim under the extended warranty I have. My friend who also owns a 130i, drove mine and said he didn't feel anything wrong. What're your experiences?

Guys a cruise is a must - it'll be cool to meet you guys and to talk.

But, as I work during the week, weekends are best for me. Any one interested?

I say this way too often but I've been there and I'd never go back. I too went from the 120i to the MkV R32 and if it is the sound you want and nothing else, go nuts but trust me when I say that the car will feel numb and somewhat lacking in almost every department. You can dress up a Golf with all the visual and mechanical hardware but at the end of the day it's still a Golf. May sound harsh but it's the truth coming from a former owner...

Thursday might be good Ken I'll give you a buzz tomorrow if I'm free. I'll be down at Phillip Island this weekend so I can't do this week sorry Charles. Possibly next week too as my brother and his friends may be coming down for some VW meet or something.. Defs up for meeting up eventually though!
