I just called my local dealership and they said that BWM has stopped selling the alarms cause of the software issues.

I told my service guy that he should pretend he was Spain and go kick some German butt and get me my software already. It has been a two month wait so far. Since we have known each other for about 10 years now, he knows how patient I am. He said he would stir the coals and see if anything emerges.

We just installed v30 this week. Maybe that will fix any alarm issues.

your dealership has v30? I would hope that it would fix any alarm issues that they are having. This is crazy people buy an option for a car, have it installed and can't use it because the stealership needs to program the car to recognize it? It takes over two months for them to come up with new software, aren't they now going to loose money now cause they cant sell the alrm? I don't this is my first BMW and it doesn't make me happy.

BMW is the problem at the moment, not the dealership.

Just looked at the Build Your Own section on the BMW website, the alarm system is $250. I guess if you are considering the alarm, it's much cheaper to get it when you order your car. Great DIY for all those who don't have it but want it!

Any updates on the alarm, and more specifically, and news on a 'vert alarm?

Tried to get my alarm installed today. The dealership after much trouble and calls to BMW technical, discovered that there is no software to get the alarm working. It turns out that the only way to get it activated is to have the BMW RTE (regional tech engineer) activate it. Foretunately the RTE will be at the dealership on Friday. No extra charge.

why did the rte have to program the car. I thought that the software was the issue with the cars in order to get it to work.

The dealership does not have the revised software yet. I was told it will be in the next update. Regardless, I got my alarm activated for free. I think it's the first free thing I've ever gotten from the dealer.

drmacole: If you're successful, please do try to prod the RTE for some info on the procedure, or at least what to tell our SA to get an RTE involved to avoid any sort of run-around.

Thanks!
