What's with all these BMW 1M's for sale?

G'day guys,

I was quite shocked at the amount of 1M's for sale on Carpoint/Carsales. Aren't they as good as they were supposed to be according to others? One of which is a black 1M in my street thats for sale.

Also, is $140,000 a little hefty for a 1M.

Why is everyone ditching them?

Yes but, it is getting to the point that you CAN'T get a new 1M whereas anyone anywhere can get a new m3 and there are bucket loads second hand too. I think in this case, and the other BSM, they are dreaming, but rarity is driving this market. Another contributing factor is that the replacement is a l o n g way off (and likely will be down on power compared to the 1M if the go N20??!!??).

i thought from all reports so far, the 1/2 series m's or whatever they're going will be some sort of n55ish like the new M3?

i understand wanting to own a rare bmw kinda, but yeah, still.. you'd have to be VERY keen... lol

Last reports have gone back to a Turbo 4 banger for the next release M2.

but the 135i is still the 6cyl turbo?

unless they're after a direct competition to other AWD 4cyl turbos, since there's also been hints at AWD, even for the 135i etc... and the new AMG A class i'm pretty sure is set to be a little awd monster, same probably with the audi

can't have the M's slower (even in a straight line, regardless of being faster around a corner) than the non m's... you'd just not get any sales more than likely lol.

N20 doesn't make sense in the M2 when the M135i hatch (costing ~80k otr) uses the N55

Maybe I am joining the dots that shouldn't be joined but the N20 in the 328i is NOT available in the 1 series, instead the lower spec variant is as per the 125i.... being left for the M2 perhaps??

A well specced M135i with DCT by the way cracks a retail price of $90k+ drive away So where will the M2 pricing be?? come to think of it where will the F20 135i (235i?) coupe be??? Interesting times.

apparently there will, yes, be a 235i. pretty sure saw it on bimmerpost front page news not too long ago. as always, coul be wrong.

yeah, but the M135i is still an n55 3xx horsepower car that can keep up with an m3 for much cheaper... the 3 series now has to sell itself on being a much NICER car, rather than a faster car

trying to slow down the 1 series is stupid, it's a smaller, lighter car, with same/similar power...

having it SLOWER than the 1M would mean sales probably won't be too spectacular, considering to sell, it has to be faster than the M135/M235i, and equivalently more expensive (at least in the 100-110k range)

They're selling like crazy in the USA as well.

My theory is many people desperately wanted them because they're such a great car but after the new factor wore off they're no longer able to justify the payments for a car that was too expensive for their budget in the first place.

I've seen renders but havn't heard anything specific about when or if BMW will have a replacement for the 1 series coupe. In true BMW form where they seem to have a model for everyone, I'm sure they will but who knows what they have planned. Personally, I'd like to see an 2M in preference to a M235i and lesser models all based on the M20...but thats just me.
