Dinan Performance Exhaust FAQ

Does a louder exhaust make more power?
Not necessarily. A freer flowing exhaust makes more power by removing friction in the exhaust system but how loud an exhaust is has to do with its packing material and or routing. It is possible for a loud exhaust to actually make less power than a stock exhaust. The best exhaust is the one that is the freest flowing and has a noise level that you enjoy.

What makes an exhaust "hummm" under light throttle?
This sound is commonly called "drone". It is caused by resonance in the exhaust system and can quickly give you a headache. Drone is the toughest characteristic to remove from an exhaust system. The use of a "hemholtz" chamber to work as a noise canceling device is a great option along with the use of butterfly valves when needed.

How are Dinan exhausts made?
All Dinan exhausts are designed and hand built in California at the Dinan Headquarters. They are welded by hand using precise tools to ensue perfect fit. All are built from 20 gauge-304 stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance.

Does the kind of steel used matter?
Yes. Your cars exhaust is subjected to the elements and other harsh conditions that occur under a car. The exhaust gets hit with gravel, salt, water, sand and whatever else is on the road. Using high quality stainless steel keeps corrosion at bay in this tough environment.

Whoops, sorry, I did. It was posted over the weekend and I think a lot of people might miss it as well if it's in the subforums instead of the general section. Besides I'm not selling it. Mods can delete if they don't want exhaust discussion outside the subforum section.

I wish they would give a weight or weight difference from the OEM exhaust. I'll email them and see if they know.

I received the following this morning, from Dinan:
The weight is virtually identical. Dramatically “cooler” exhaust note and a bit less drone running at highway speeds. No “valves” on our system, improving flow at all throttle settings. One of the best sounding exhausts we have ever produced!

I have no doubt it will sound great, but the fact that it is not a true bolt on system that requires cutting the OEM exhaust might be a deal breaker for many. My Eisenman sport system included a connecting pipe that would bolt right up to the stock mid pipe. When I decided to go back to the OEM exhaust, the swap was a breeze.

As I replied to Scott, I don't care about the drone, I want to reduce the weight of the car (a high 3,200 pound pig). As to fix the drone I told him I turn the radio up.

Is there any update on their CF CAI? Last I spoke to them they were supposed to release it 'around the same time as the exhaust'.

It needs to shed weight, but not from the rear.

I forgot to ask about the CAI, but he did mention that they will be releasing the stage 3 package before the end of the month which is comprised of a tune, FMIC, and oil cooler. The only way to get the warranty is to buy the entire package.

Yeah, sadly Dinan is like that, to get their warranty you cannot mix and match with other tuners/products

Was at DINAN this past Monday. All 1M products (CAI, FMIC, oil cooler, exhaust, stage 2 & 3 software, etc.) are now available. They are also in development on some suspension components as well. Beautiful stuff.
