I think in the end it's cheaper for him to get to where he wants to go rather than get an 1M. I too think that 1M will hold up its value much more even if somewhat modified. After all, buying a car that already has little value and investing money in it to make it look like an 1M only to have even less value in the end is kind of contradicting in my opinion, but everyone is entitled to their craziness , just like the rest of us

I don't think he has any intentions of selling it either, especially with the v8 in the works for the future. Fantastic build I can't wait to see this in person!

Have you looked at used 1M prices lately? Most are $50k...$60k and up. Keep in mind their msrp in 2011 was $47k.

You can get clean low mileage 135i's less than $20k all day. Leaves you a lot of room to make the car exactly what you want. If you plan on keeping the car long term, why not go the custom route for less money?

OK now that the car is home I have a list of to-dos... 1st thing is to tackle the cakeater rear seat delete and find a way to reinstall the rear seatbelt coverings with the new roll bars in place.

and SUCCESS....

removed the foam forms to use as a template, then I made my cuts on the plastics, then folded in the leather material... Piece of cake.

Tomorrow I'll tackle the rear seat panel...

Rear Seat Delete Project

With the help of my beautiful wife this project only took about 4 hours to complete! I didn't install a lip on the panels like cakeater's diy because of limited room with the cage. Still looks perfect.

Can't take credit for the upholstery work.

She even labeled them for me!

test fit w/ carpet

final test fit before installing the last velcro bits

final install! forgot to take pics of the under brackets I made, sorry...
